This year's holiday period lasts 5 days, from April 30th to May 4th, but even before that, under the close and timely guidance of the leaders of the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority, air transport operations had already seen growth and were taking place at a high pace.
Based on preliminary results and projections for the period from April 29th to May 4th, airports nationwide recorded over 12,610 takeoffs and landings; an increase of 19.45% compared to the same period last year.
Total passenger traffic reached over 2.09 million passengers and 23,360 tons of cargo, representing a 25.83% increase in passengers and an 18.57% increase in cargo compared to the same period last year.
Tan Son Nhat International Airport alone recorded approximately 4,320 takeoffs and landings; 709,600 passengers and 8,400 tons of cargo handled, representing a 14.3% increase in takeoffs and landings, a 19.54% increase in passengers, and a 0.73% increase in cargo compared to the same period last year.
On average during this period, airports nationwide saw more than 2,000 takeoffs and landings daily, with over 340,000 passengers and approximately 3,800 tons of cargo passing through.
Specifically, at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, April 29th saw the highest volume of operations with 734 takeoffs and landings and over 128,000 passengers; the lowest volume was May 2nd with 700 takeoffs and landings and over 111,000 passengers passing through the airport.
Two other major airports, Noi Bai International Airport and Da Nang International Airport, also recorded high double-digit growth rates compared to the same period last year.

At Noi Bai International Airport, approximately 3,480 takeoffs and landings are expected, carrying over 578,480 passengers and 12,920 tons of cargo, representing increases of 24.62%, 29.67%, and 24.4% respectively compared to the same period last year.
At Da Nang International Airport, there were approximately 1,670 takeoffs and landings; 271,170 passengers and 1,000 tons of cargo, representing increases of 23.16%, 26.68% and 207.97% respectively compared to the same period last year.
“The preparations and implementation by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and other units in the aviation industry to serve passengers traveling to/from Ho Chi Minh City during the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, as well as domestic operations and especially at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, have been continuous, stable, and timely in handling and resolving arising issues,” assessed Mr. Uong Viet Dung, Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.
The premise for this year's growth target.
For Vietnamese airlines, although there were some flight delays in the early days, mainly due to the transition in ground operations at airports, under the close, urgent, and timely guidance of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and the prompt and close coordination of units in the industry, passenger and cargo transportation activities during the holiday period were maintained stably and recorded a high increase.
Specifically, from April 29th to May 4th, 2025, Vietnamese airlines transported approximately 986,800 passengers and 6,009 tons of cargo, representing a 29.81% increase in passengers and a 3.87% increase in cargo compared to the same period last year. Of this, international routes transported 330,740 passengers and 2,890 tons of cargo, an increase of 31.61% and 10.11% respectively.
On domestic routes, Vietnamese airlines transported 656,006 passengers and 3,200 tons of cargo, representing a 28.92% increase in passengers and a 1.1% decrease in cargo.

In an overall assessment of air transport operations, the Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, Uong Viet Dung, stated that service and transport operations during the April 30th - May 1st holiday period this year were stable, continuous, and smooth, basically meeting the travel needs of the people and tourists. Relevant units and functional departments coordinated and promptly handled any arising issues; ensuring security and operational safety.
“The high growth recorded in aviation operations during this period is a concrete result of the effective management, implementation, and coordination efforts of agencies and units within the industry. This also serves as a basis for agencies and units to continue implementing tasks and work, preparing for the upcoming summer peak season and striving to achieve the growth targets of the aviation industry this year,” said Mr. Uong Viet Dung.
