Thu Van was born and raised in a family where both parents are teachers. Family tradition and the example of her parents helped Van develop a passion for and a willingness to build a learning routine from an early age. The guidance and support of her family motivated her to constantly strive every day to explore the horizons of knowledge and nurture her dream of becoming a useful person to society.
Determining clear learning goals and motivation to strive has helped Nguyen Thu Van always achieve excellent results throughout 12 years of high school. In particular, she loves foreign languages and has achieved impressive scores in this subject.
Some of the outstanding results I have achieved are: Third prize in the provincial English competition for 10th and 11th graders in the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years; Encouragement prize in the provincial English competition for 12th graders in the 2023-2024 school year; IELTS certificate of 7.5; SAT score (an international standardized test used for admission to universities in the US, Europe and some countries) of 1470/1600 points; First prize in the provincial English speaking competition for high school students in the 2023-2024 school year.
In particular, she has just won scholarships from 7 universities in the US with a total scholarship value of 31.6 billion VND, including a scholarship from Knox College worth 5.2 billion VND, a scholarship at Centre College worth 5.1 billion VND, a scholarship at DePauw University worth 5 billion VND...
Sharing about her own learning method, Thu Van said: “With the guidance and instruction of teachers and the support of my parents, I always try to self-study and research documents from many different sources, especially English documents from academic websites, international lectures and in-depth reference books.
I regularly create specific study plans for each week and month and practice the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. I always consider studying as a journey of discovering knowledge and set myself discipline, self-awareness and goals. My dream is to use the knowledge I have learned to contribute to building my homeland to become more and more beautiful."
