On August 21, the US government announced that Google will provide almost free artificial intelligence (AI) tools related to the Gemini virtual assistant to the country's federal agencies.

According to the US General Services Administration (GSA), Google intends to use a series of AI and cloud computing services called "Gemini for Government" to speed up the US Government's adoption of this technology.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai said Gemini for Government services give US federal agencies access to the full technology stack (a set of tools, programming languages, libraries, database management systems, servers, and other technologies used to develop and operate an application or a system) in AI-based innovation so they can perform critical tasks.

These tools include video , image or idea generation tools, as well as digital "agents" capable of independently performing complex tasks.

According to GSA, the above agencies will pay a small fee, less than 1 USD, for these tools based on a previous agreement to provide software that provides Google Workspace online office tools and services to the US Government, at a very preferential price.

The deal comes just weeks after Google competitor OpenAI announced it would let the US government use a version of ChatGPT designed for businesses for a year, for just $1.

Providing government employees with access to powerful and safe AI tools could help them solve more problems, faster, according to OpenAI./.
