On October 2, technology giant Apple confirmed that it had removed ICEBlock - the most popular application for tracking immigration enforcement activities in the US - and several similar applications from the App Store.
The move comes after the Trump administration contacted the company about concerns that the apps could increase violence against law enforcement.
Specifically, ICEBlock has the function of warning users in the vicinity about the presence of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) - the core unit in Mr. Trump's hardline immigration policy.
This feature hinders ICE's ability to perform its duties and increases the risk of attack. US Attorney General Pam Bondi said ICEBlock was designed to endanger ICE agents while performing their duties.
Ms. Pam Bondi stressed that violence against law enforcement is a red line that cannot be crossed.
Upon receiving information from law enforcement about the security risks associated with ICEBlock, Apple immediately took action to remove ICEBlock and similar apps.
Previously, the Trump administration had issued a warning to Joshua Aaron, a Texas-based programmer who created the ICEBlock app. The US government said it was considering criminal charges against him./.
