Recently, many SIM card and nice number traders have posted articles, reacting to the policy change from Vietnamobile. Specifically, the issue revolves around the type of subscribers who can switch networks and keep their numbers.

"All activities of Vietnamobile, including the management and handling of unactivated SIMs, strictly comply with State regulations, ensuring fairness, transparency and not infringing on the legitimate rights of any party," the network operator said.

The unit affirmed that according to the new regulations of the management agency, SIMs that are not activated or have not generated traffic for a long time must be reviewed to prevent spam numbers and protect users. During the implementation process, Vietnamobile recorded feedback from a number of agents about batches of unactivated SIMs and is working directly with each party to agree on a suitable handling direction, harmonizing interests and in accordance with legal regulations.

The network operator said it will seek to discuss and exchange directly with SIM card dealers to resolve problems and comply with the law.

The conflict between distributors and Vietnamobile arose from a type of subscription known as “SIM Tich”. These are beautiful phone numbers, issued by this network, auctioned and stored by agents for resale.

The important feature that makes this item valuable is that users can switch networks and keep their numbers. After buying a Vietnamobile SIM, they can switch to another service, which has a wider coverage infrastructure. Meanwhile, the owner still has a nice phone number, at a cheaper price than similar subscriptions from Viettel and Mobifone .

However, recently, Vietnamobile changed its policy, locking a large number of unactivated SIM cards. This caused damage to agents who were speculating and hoarding this type of asset to resell for profit.

On social media, many sellers posted articles accusing the network of “betrayal” and “reneging” after the change of general director. They said they had previously received commitments from the former leadership regarding the policy for the above SIM line. In clips circulating on TikTok, some individuals even went to Vietnamobile transaction offices and headquarters to protest and demand justice.

Recently, Vietnamobile announced the appointment of Dr. Nguyen Hien Phuong as General Director. She is the first Vietnamese person to hold the highest position of the network operator. Before being appointed, she had many years of experience in the Hanoi Telecom ecosystem, holding senior management positions.

In the period 2021-2025, Mr. Raymond Ho, from Hong Kong, China, holds the position of General Director. This person is a personnel from Hutchinson Group, one of the three major shareholders of Vietnamobile, along with Hanoi Telecom Joint Stock Company and Ms. Trinh Minh Chau, General Director of Hanoi Telecom.
