“Although the players had many shots, 3 goals is still a success. If we had been more careful in the final situations, we could have scored more goals,” Coach Kim opened the press conference with comments about the attack.
However, Nepal's equalizer in the first half did not make Mr. Kim completely satisfied. "That was a set piece, the players need to focus more on defense. We will learn from the experience to be able to defend better. Nepal played quite well today, especially their physical strength created many difficulties for Vietnam," he said.
In the second half, the Vietnamese team proactively adjusted their tactics to maintain pressure and exploit their numerical advantage. “In the first half, we played safely, but in the second half, the coaching staff wanted to take advantage of players who tended to attack when the opponent started to get tired. Tactically, the whole team performed well and achieved the expected results,” Mr. Kim shared.
One of the notable bright spots for Vietnam is the return of goalkeeper Dang Van Lam to the goal. Although he did not have to work too much, Van Lam still received praise from the head coach.
“Before the training session, Van Lam performed very well at the club. Today it is difficult to evaluate him comprehensively because Nepal did not have many dangerous shots, but overall Lam played steadily and brought peace of mind to the defense,” Mr. Kim commented.
The Korean strategist also emphasized that the victory over Nepal is just a small part of the long journey in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
“Malaysia also won this match, so we cannot be complacent. The Vietnamese team will have to continue to make efforts in the next three matches. We focus on preparing for each match, not thinking too much about the opponent,” he said.
