Filipino boxer Pacquiao made an impressive comeback after a four-year absence when he fought opponent Mario Barrios on July 19 in Las Vegas for the WBC welterweight championship.
Although the fight ended in a draw, many believed that Pacquiao was "outplayed" and should have won.
That did not discourage Pacquiao and he plans to continue his career, hoping to find the feeling of winning again.
Pacquiao revealed his next fight will take place on January 24 next year, later than the original scheduled date of later this year.
"Hello all boxing fans, I am very happy to inform you that I will be returning to the ring on January 24 in Las Vegas. This will be an exciting and special event. Stay tuned, I will update more news about my opponent in the next few days," Pacquiao shared in a video posted on Instagram.
According to world press, the upcoming opponent of the Filipino boxer is likely to be American boxer Rolly Romero (29 years old), who currently holds the WBA welterweight championship belt.
Pacquiao is one of the most famous athletes in Philippine history. He is also the only boxer to win world titles in eight different weight divisions.
In 2021, Pacquiao decided to hang up his gloves to focus on pursuing a political career.
He was a senator and ran in the 2022 Philippine presidential election, but ultimately lost to incumbent President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Not long ago, Pacquiao also failed in his attempt to win another seat in the Philippine Senate.
