On the morning of October 11, at My Dinh Indoor Athletics Palace ( Hanoi ), the opening ceremony of the final round of the Hanoi Open Pool Championship 2025 took place. After the qualifying rounds, the tournament will continue with the first-eighth round from the afternoon of the same day.

The 16 players competing in this round include Jayson Shaw, Max Lechner, Robbie Capito, Aloysius Yapp, Harry Vergara, Fraser Patrick, Tristan Deocareza, Roberto Gomez, Pijus Labutis, Raymund Faraon, Carlo Biado, Roland Garcia, Moritz Neuhausen, David Alcaide, Jonas Souto and finally Dinh Chan Kiet.

Dinh Chan Kiet is Vietnam's last hope at this point because a series of our players were eliminated in the round of 16. Among them are the regrettable defeats of Nguyen The Hien against David Alcaide, Bui Truong An against Moritz Neuhausen. Or Vietnam's number one player Duong Quoc Hoang against Roberto Gomez on the evening of October 10.

The presence of "dark horse" Chan Kiet is therefore considered a big surprise of the tournament. Previously in the qualifying round, he lost to Quoc Hoang with a score of 2-9 in the first match and fell to the loser's bracket. However, Chan Kiet excellently eliminated two Filipino players, Anton Raga and Jefrey Roda, to win a ticket to the 1-8 round.

Here, Chan Kiet will meet Jonas Souto - the man who turned defending champion Johann Chua into a former champion.

The Hanoi Open Pool 2025 also witnessed a few more surprises when world number 1 Fedor Gorst and defending champion Johann Chua were eliminated early in the 1-32 round.

The Hanoi Open Pool 2025 tournament takes place from October 7 to 12 at the My Dinh Indoor Athletics Palace (Hanoi), with the participation of 256 players from 40 countries. The total prize of the tournament is 200,000 USD. The champion player receives 40,000 USD.

Also at the event on October 11, the organizers announced that they had donated 100 million VND from ticket sales to support people in overcoming the consequences of recent floods, contributing to spreading the humanistic values of sports in life.
