Teams ready for the race to the 2026 AFC U17 Women's Finals

The qualifying round of Group D of the 2026 AFC U17 Women's Championship will officially kick off on the afternoon of October 13 at Go Dau Stadium (Ho Chi Minh City), with the participation of three teams: Vietnam, Hong Kong (China) and Guam. Before the match, all three teams expressed their determination to win the top spot in the group to win the only ticket to the Final Round.

At the press conference held on the afternoon of October 12, head coach of the Vietnam U17 women's team - Mr. Okiyama Masahiko expressed his satisfaction with the preparation process in the past time, especially the training trip in Germany, where young Vietnamese players had the opportunity to approach a modern football environment.

“We learned a lot about physical strength, speed and how to organize the game from the German youth teams. These experiences will be very useful for the players when entering the tournament,” Mr. Okiyama shared.

Although there is not much data about the first opponent, Guam U17 women's team, Mr. Okiyama affirmed that the coaching staff will flexibly adjust tactics based on what is shown in the match.

“We will play with the highest concentration, observing step by step to make appropriate adjustments. The whole team will try to show a beautiful playing style and give our all for the audience,” the Japanese coach emphasized. He also called on fans to come to the stadium to cheer for the team, creating more motivation for the young players.

Player Tran Thi An, representing the Vietnam U17 women's team, said: "We have made clear progress in recent times and will try our best to bring the best results for the team."

On the side of Guam, coach Chyna Ramirez affirmed that the whole team is ready for the qualifying round. “This is an opportunity for us to show the development of Guam’s young women’s football. The weather conditions in Vietnam are quite favorable, so we have not encountered any significant obstacles in getting used to it,” said Ms. Chyna. She also highly appreciated the level of Vietnamese women’s football and said that the Guam team had specific tactical calculations for the match.

Guam player Hope Hutapca added: “We started the preparation process since last year. Technically and tactically, the team has been well prepared to enter the tournament.”

Meanwhile, coach Chan Shuk Chi of the Hong Kong (China) U17 women's team said her team had a short training trip in Thailand to adapt to the climate conditions, creating a good stepping stone when competing in Vietnam.

“The whole team is in good shape both physically and mentally,” said Chan Shuk Chi. Player Chong Ching Lam Jaylynn added: “We have been training since July and have had many quality training sessions in the past time.”

The opening match of Group D between Vietnam U17 Women and Guam U17 Women will take place at 4:00 p.m. on October 13 at Go Dau Stadium ( Ho Chi Minh City).

This is expected to be an important match, which will decide the group stage. With home field advantage and careful preparation, the U17 Vietnam women's team is expected to have a favorable start.
