The State Council of Professors has just announced the list of candidates recommended by the Council of Professors of all disciplines and interdisciplinary disciplines to be considered for recognition as meeting the standards for the title of professor and associate professor in 2025. In the list of 71 candidates for professorship in 2025, there is the name of billionaire Ho Xuan Nang, one of the richest businessmen in Vietnam.

Mr. Ho Xuan Nang is a candidate for professor of mechanical engineering, working at the Faculty of Automotive and Energy Engineering, School of Engineering, Phenikaa University.
According to the candidate profile published on the State Council of Professors' website, Mr. Ho Xuan Nang is a lecturer at Phenikaa University (now Phenikaa University), and is also the Chairman of the University Council (formerly known as the Board of Directors) of Phenikaa University from 2017 to present.
He graduated from Hanoi University of Science and Technology in 1986 and received his PhD from Hanoi University of Science and Technology in 1992. After that, he was a lecturer and researcher at a number of higher education institutions such as Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Vietnam Academy of Agriculture , etc.
From January 1999 to July 2004, he moved to work at a state-owned enterprise, while still participating in teaching or guiding graduate and doctoral students at a number of higher education institutions. From July 2004 to 2017, he devoted all his time to management activities, business leadership, and ownership of private enterprises (Phenikaa Group).
In 2017, Phenikaa Group acquired a private university and renamed it Phenikaa University. Since then, Mr. Ho Xuan Nang, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Phenikaa Group, has also served as a lecturer at Phenikaa University.
As a lecturer at Phenikaa University, Mr. Ho Xuan Nang was recognized by the State Council of Professors as meeting the standards for the title of associate professor on March 30, 2022. After nearly 3 years of being appointed as an associate professor by Phenikaa University, Mr. Ho Xuan Nang submitted his application for professorship.
According to the self-declared scientific research achievements of the candidate Professor Ho Xuan Nang, he has presided over the completion of 1 national-level scientific research project, 1 ministerial-level project..., and is presiding over 1 national-level project. By June 30, Mr. Nang had published 109 scientific articles, of which 55 were published in prestigious international journals.
Regarding teaching achievements, he has guided 3 doctoral students to successfully defend their theses, is guiding 5 doctoral students, and guided 3 graduate students to successfully defend their master's theses.
Regarding the process of considering professors and associate professors this year, the industry and interdisciplinary councils have proposed to the State Council of Professors to consider 836 candidates (71 professor candidates, 765 associate professor candidates), a reduction of 97 candidates compared to the list proposed by the basic councils (not including the military science and security science councils).
In the field of mechanical engineering alone, there were 47 candidates proposed by the basic councils, and the industry-industry council approved 45 applications. Of the 2 applications rejected by the industry-industry council, there was 1 application for professor and 1 application for associate professor.
