Tran Quyet Chien defeated his rival
On the afternoon of October 10, Tran Quyet Chien entered the 32nd round of the World Cup billiards Antwerp 2025, taking place in Belgium. Quyet Chien's first opponent was compatriot Nguyen Tran Thanh Tu (current Vietnamese national champion). In domestic tournaments, Thanh Tu is considered a formidable opponent of Vietnam's number 1 player.
However, this did not happen when these two players met in the opening match of Group C of the Antwerp Billiards World Cup 2025. Thanh Tu won the right to start, holding the white ball. The reigning national champion of Vietnam made a precise start and set up the next favorable ball shape. However, Thanh Tu did not take advantage of it well and from then on lost the feeling of scoring.
Tran Quyet Chien showed his ability to score more consistently and quickly took the lead. The match entered the break after 15 rounds, with Tran Quyet Chien leading 21-6.

In the second half, Quyet Chien had a series of 6 points to widen the gap to 27-8. In the 20th turn, Thanh Tu had the first time to stay on the table for a long time, when he scored a series of 6 points, to shorten the score to 15-31. He had another series in the 29th turn. However, that was not enough to help Thanh Tu turn the situation around against his senior.
In the end, Tran Quyet Chien defeated Thanh Tu 40-22 after 29 rounds. Tran Quyet Chien had a smooth start, but had to face two big challenges ahead, Roland Forthomme (Belgium) and Martin Horn (Germany). Quyet Chien's next matches will take place at 7 p.m. and 11 p.m.
In the match that took place at the same time, genius Caudron defeated veteran player Eddy Merckx (Belgium) with a score of 40-31, after 20 rounds. Both players are considered legends of the world carom billiards. Caudron currently owns 21 World Cup billiards championships, while Merckx has 14 titles.
Cho Myung-woo defeated Peter Ceulemans (Belgium) with a score of 40-38, after 23 rounds. Legendary Blomdahl narrowly won 40-39 against Pennor (Sweden).
