Despite the disadvantage of stormy weather, the tournament still attracted 256 players from 40 countries, creating an unprecedentedly exciting and professional sporting atmosphere in Vietnam. After the qualifying rounds, the tournament continued with the round of 1-8 matches with 16 excellent players. Dinh Chan Kiet was the only Vietnamese player to compete in the round of 16 of the 9-ball Hanoi Open Pool 2025.
The 16 players competing in this round include Jayson Shaw, Max Lechner, Robbie Capito, Aloysius Yapp, Harry Vergara, Fraser Patrick, Tristan Deocareza, Roberto Gomez, Pijus Labutis, Raymund Faraon, Carlo Biado, Roland Garcia, Moritz Neuhausen, David Alcaide, Jonas Souto and finally Dinh Chan Kiet (Vietnam).
Dinh Chan Kiet is Vietnam's last hope at this point, because a series of excellent Vietnamese players were eliminated in the round of 16. Among them are the regrettable defeats of Nguyen The Hien against David Alcaide, Bui Truong An against Moritz Neuhausen. Or Vietnam's number one player Duong Quoc Hoang against Roberto Gomez on the evening of October 10.

In her opening speech, Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports Bach Lien Huong said: Although the tournament started with difficulties due to the impact of storms and rains, with a spirit of professionalism, courage and high responsibility, the Organizing Committee flexibly overcame and rearranged the competition schedule, ensuring the progress and quality of the tournament. In addition to the top performances, the tournament is also an opportunity for Vietnamese billiards to affirm their ability to organize international-scale tournaments, promoting the image of the capital Hanoi to international friends.
The organizing committee has allocated 100 million VND from ticket sales to join hands with the community to support people to overcome the consequences of floods. This is a humanitarian gesture, clearly demonstrating the spirit of "Sports for the community", contributing to spreading the good values of sports not only on the field but also in life.

Immediately after the opening ceremony, the 1/8 round and quarter-final matches took place. Before that, there were surprises when Johann Chua had to become the former king early. Not only Johann Chua, a series of other strong candidates also had to stop early such as: Fedor Gorst and Francisco Sanchez Ruiz... This shows the fierce competition and unpredictable surprises. The biggest hope of the host Vietnam, player Duong Quoc Hoang, also had to stop in the 1/16 round after an unfortunate defeat against Roberto Gomez of the Philippines.
However, the host Vietnam still has player Dinh Chan Kiet. Although not highly rated, Dinh Chan Kiet created a big surprise when he was in the top 16 best players of the tournament.
The 2025 Hanoi Open 9-Ball Pool Championship will conclude on October 12, after a series of semi-final and final matches to find the new champion.
