Japan gives Vietnamese contestants special permission to go straight to the final round of the PIARA International Piano Competition

The 2026 National Piano Talent Festival was officially launched by the Vietnam Institute for Educational and Cultural Development in collaboration with the Department of Performing Arts (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism).

According to the organizers, entering the 2026 season, the National Piano Talent Festival will have many new, groundbreaking features.

The age of the contest is expanded from 5 to 25 years old, divided into 15 tables with three categories: Freestyle, Classic and Artist.

In particular, according to Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan - Head of the Organizing Committee, President of the Vietnam Institute for Educational and Cultural Development, this year's competition will expand international cooperation. The 20-30 best candidates will be selected to join the Vietnam piano talent team to participate in the final round of the PIARA International Piano Competition in Japan in July 2026.

Japan is the cradle of famous piano production and also the birthplace of many famous artists. This is a valuable opportunity for young Vietnamese talents to compete, learn and assert themselves on the international stage.

Mr. Tuan added that PIARA is a prestigious 30-year-old piano competition with 20 participating countries.

"After researching and closely following the first two seasons of the National Piano Talent Festival, they decided to give Vietnamese contestants a special privilege to go straight to the finals without having to go through the two regular rounds. This is unprecedented, showing their recognition of our competition and our talents," he said.

Candidates who participate in the national final round all receive the PIARA international certificate recognized by the Japan Assessment Association.

According to the organizers, over two seasons, the National Piano Talent Festival has received nearly 2,000 applications each year.

"Our goal is to help 1 million Vietnamese students, pupils and children shine on stage with the piano. Not only at small events but also at big events, not only domestically but also internationally. This year, I am very happy to have done that," said Mr. Tuan.

This year, the talent search round takes place online from January 1 to 31, 2026, followed by the shining round held live in three regions: North, Central, and South in March.

The final round and the awards gala are scheduled to take place on March 28 and 29, 2026 at the concert hall of the Vietnam National Academy of Music, Hanoi .

After finding the best faces, the Vietnamese representative team will go to the PIARA international final in Japan in July of the same year.
