In November 2021, Comrade Vu Nhat Huong was assigned as a communications officer to the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic. In the early days of her assignment, she faced many difficulties. Living conditions were lacking in electricity, water, and medical care . The climate was harsh, with temperatures reaching 40-42°C during the dry season and flooding during the rainy season, bringing mud, soil, and garbage into the living quarters. Malaria and Ebola were constant threats. Most notably, the severe outbreak of Covid-19 heavily impacted all aspects of her work.
Major Vu Nhat Huong shared: “When far from my homeland and family, during tense nights filled with gunfire and days battling the pandemic, I sometimes felt disheartened. But I told myself that I was carrying a national mission, the trust of the Army, and the image of Vietnamese women on my shoulders, so I couldn't allow myself to be weak; I had to be strong to fulfill my duty.”
