The announcement was made by the Bavarian club just before the final round of the Bundesliga season. This means the German goalkeeper will be entering his 16th season with Bayern after joining from Schalke 04 in 2011.
Speaking after renewing his contract, Neuer said he still retains his passion for football and feels Bayern is the ideal environment to continue conquering titles.
"I still go to training every day with enthusiasm and always want to give my all," the German goalkeeper emphasized.
Sporting Director Max Eberl also confirmed that Bayern is developing a long-term plan for the goalkeeper position, with Neuer continuing to play a leading role both professionally and in terms of experience.
At 40 years old, Neuer is still considered a reliable goalkeeper for Bayern. In over a decade at the Allianz Arena, he has played a total of 597 matches and won almost every major title.
Neuer's impressive collection includes 2 Champions League titles, 13 Bundesliga titles, 6 German Cup titles, and a host of other trophies such as the UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and German Super Cup.
Extending his contract for another year shows that Bayern still has absolute faith in the club's "living legend," who shows no signs of slowing down despite turning 40.
