Having lost 4-5 in the first leg, Bayern Munich needed to beat PSG in the second leg at home to overturn the deficit. However, despite having home advantage, the Bavarians were unable to stage a comeback, drawing 1-1 and being eliminated with an aggregate score of 5-6 after two legs.
In the match early this morning (May 7th), Ousmane Dembele scored to give PSG a 1-0 lead in the 3rd minute. Stuck against PSG's solid defense, Bayern Munich only managed to equalize in the 90+4th minute thanks to a goal from Kane.
Including his goal against PSG in the second leg, Kane has scored in six consecutive Champions League knockout matches. Surpassing Robert Lewandowski (who scored in five consecutive Champions League knockout matches), the English striker has become the Bayern Munich player with the most consecutive Champions League knockout match goals in history.
Despite his impressive performance, Kane was unable to help Bayern Munich reach the final as hoped. After the match, the English striker was seen crying in disappointment. Several members of the coaching staff and Manuel Neuer came to comfort the former Tottenham striker.
Besides missing the chance to win the Champions League for the first time in his career, Kane also lost all hope of competing for the Golden Boot in the 2025/26 season with Kylian Mbappe. Kane finished the season with 14 goals, just one goal behind Mbappe, the current top scorer (Mbappe scored 15 goals).
After Kane's elimination, only two players remain with the potential to compete with Mbappe for the Golden Boot: Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (10 goals) and Dembele (7 goals).
However, neither Kvaratskhelia nor Dembele will find it very difficult to score another 5 or 8 goals in the final between PSG and Arsenal on May 30th to equal Mbappe's record. Therefore, the Real Madrid striker is almost certain to win the Champions League top scorer title in 2025/26.
