According to Bleeping Computer, the Anatsa malware attacked users' Android devices through malicious software hosted on Google Play, aiming to steal bank accounts and seize users' assets.
Experts at fraud detection firm ThreatFabric say the Anatsa malware has seen an increase since November 2023. To date, at least 150,000 user devices have been infected.
The application contains malware.
Malicious applications are often found in the top free categories, executed in multiple stages, and exploit Android accessibility features to bypass security measures.
Accordingly, ThreatFabric has detected and recommended that users delete five malicious applications: Phone Cleaner - File Explorer; PDF Viewer - File Explorer; PDF Reader - Viewer & Editor; Phone Cleaner: File Explorer; PDF Reader: File Manager.
ThreatFabric stated that most of these apps have been removed from the Play Store, with the exception of PDF Reader.
If detected on the device, users should take enhanced security measures such as changing account passwords, activating two-factor authentication, etc.
