In recent years, My Loc commune, Can Giuoc district, Long An province has many households raising chickens in large numbers. Previously, these farms mainly raised chickens in the traditional way, the issue of chicken manure treatment was not focused on, causing environmental pollution.
From that reality, the Farmers' Association of My Loc commune transferred the technique of "Application of biological bedding in chicken farming" to households in the commune to help reduce environmental pollution, increase resistance for livestock, and bring high economic efficiency.
Since applying biological bedding in livestock farming, the bad smell from chicken manure has almost disappeared, making Mr. Nguyen Van Khi's family (Thanh Ba hamlet, My Loc commune, Can Giuoc district) more comfortable in their daily life.
Before implementing the model, the Farmers' Association of My Loc commune coordinated with the Livestock and Veterinary Station of Can Giuoc district to guide the process of using Balasa N01 as biological bedding in livestock farming; suitable materials for making Balasa N01 biological bedding; instructions on how to make bedding directly on the floor of closed or open barns; techniques for making bedding for raising chickens; how to use, maintain and prevent heat in the summer. Balasa N01 biological bedding is used as biological bedding in livestock farming for chickens, ducks, pigs, goats, and rabbits.
Chairman of the Farmers' Association of My Loc commune - Le Hoai Nam said that using Balasa N01 as bedding in livestock farming helps reduce bad odors and toxic gases in the barn; improve the living environment for farmers; minimize cleaning labor; reduce the rate of disease in poultry; increase meat quality and economic efficiency,... Brooding chickens on bedding helps chicks to be healthy, less susceptible to disease, and develop well. Chickens raised on bedding do not have foot rot, lame legs, have smooth and clean feathers, firm and delicious meat, and reduce antibiotic residues.
Mr. Nguyen Van Khi (born in 1963, residing in Thanh Ba hamlet, My Loc commune) has been involved in chicken farming for more than 40 years. Initially, he only raised a small number of chickens using traditional methods. Up to now, his flock has about 6,000 chickens, with a peak of 13,000 at one point. Before applying biological bedding, the stench from the chicken coop was very strong, affecting not only the surrounding environment but also directly affecting his family, causing many difficulties in daily life.
After attending the training course of the Commune Farmers' Association, he bought 4kg of Balasa N01, mixed it with 20kg of corn bran for 48 hours and then spread it evenly on the surface of the coop after lining it with rice husks. He also monitored the humidity and added liquid probiotics. After about 15 days, the coop floor was always dry, the chicken manure decomposed without creating a foul odor, helping the chickens grow healthily.
Previously, each batch of chickens with this number, he had to spend about 40 million VND on veterinary medicine and vaccines, but now it only costs 15 million VND. In particular, thanks to the application of biological bedding, the odor from livestock farming activities has been significantly reduced, contributing to environmental protection for the surrounding area.
Mr. Khi shared: “Previously, spontaneous chicken farming often faced risks of disease, uneven chicken growth, and cost a lot of medicine. Since applying biological bedding, not only has the odor been reduced, but the coop is also drier, the health of the chickens has improved significantly, and the cost of raising chickens has been significantly reduced. This method is really effective, both protecting the environment and helping farmers save costs.”
The application of biological bedding in chicken farming helps protect the environment, contributing to maintaining and improving income and environmental criteria in building advanced new rural communes./.
| Using biological bedding (BLM) in livestock farming has become one of the advanced and highly effective models, especially in household and small-scale farming. |
