In the early hours of May 7th, Bayern Munich drew 1-1 with PSG in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final. However, that wasn't enough for the German team to advance, and they had to watch PSG reach the final, who won the tie 6-5 on aggregate.

Speaking after the match, coach Vincent Kompany could not hide his frustration, stating that the decisions of Portuguese referee Joao Pinheiro directly deprived Bayern of opportunities.

"We have to look back at some situations that were decided by the match officials throughout the two legs. While that wasn't the reason for everything, it clearly had a significant impact," the Belgian strategist shared.

"If you look at both legs, they made too many decisions that went against us. The players fought their hearts out against a great team like PSG," he added.

The anger of Bayern Munich fans reached its peak over two controversial handball incidents. First, visiting defender Nuno Mendes escaped a second yellow card after what appeared to be a deliberate handball in the first half.

The referee did not penalize Nuno Mendes; on the contrary, he awarded PSG a free kick. Coach Kompany commented:

"I felt the referee was about to show a card, but then he stopped when he realized Mendes had already received a yellow card and didn't want to send him off. They explained that Konrad Laimer had handled the ball first."

The second incident that angered Bayern was when Vitinha's clearance struck his teammate Joao Neves' hand inside the penalty area, but no penalty was awarded to the German side.

In the first leg, Bayern were awarded a penalty for a handball by Alphonso Davies, which further fueled manager Kompany's feelings of injustice.

This defeat also means that Bayern Munich's dream of winning the treble this season has officially come to an end.

With this result, PSG and Arsenal are the two teams that have qualified to play in the 2025-2026 Champions League final, which will take place on May 30th.
