Coach Ange Postecoglou has just parted ways with Scottish Premier League club Celtic after winning five titles in two seasons. The 57-year-old has signed a contract to lead Tottenham until June 2027, with the goal of bringing the club back into the top four of the Premier League.
Coach Ange Postecoglou will face many challenges when leading a big club like Tottenham.
"Ange (Postecoglou) brings a positive mentality and a fast, beautiful attacking style of play. He also understands the importance of the link from the academy to the first team, which is very important for the club," Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy said of the team's new coach in the announcement.
Previously, Tottenham spent a long time searching for a new coach to replace coach Antonio Conte who was fired at the end of March, including interim coach Ryan Mason. However, Ryan Mason was considered inexperienced, while famous coaches such as Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique and Arne Slot (of Feyenoord) all refused.
Tottenham eventually decided to hire Ange Postecoglou, who had the right vision and football philosophy to negotiate with. The 57-year-old Greek-Australian coach led the Australian team at the 2014 World Cup and the 2018 qualifiers, but resigned before the finals in Russia. He also previously worked for Australian clubs such as Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory. After finishing his national team career, Postecoglou went to Japan to coach Yokohama FC.
Coach Ange Postecoglou will have to find a way to keep striker Harry Kane who wants to leave
Since the 2021 season, coach Ange Postecoglou has led Celtic FC and quickly achieved success with a treble (winning the National Championship, Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup) in his first season. This season, he and the club won the double of the National Championship and Scottish League Cup.
At Tottenham, coach Ange Postecoglou will face many challenges, first of all stabilizing the squad and keeping star striker Harry Kane who wants to leave. Besides, he must bring this North London team back to the top 4 of the Premier League after only finishing 8th in the last season.
