Recently, the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX) announced a list of 94 securities that are ineligible for margin trading in the fourth quarter of 2023, an increase of 22 compared to the list published at the beginning of the third quarter.
These are mainly stocks that are under warning or control status, such as BLF, CTC, CTX, DS3, MAS, KDM, LDP, SSM, APS, SD6, etc. Stocks like MHL, MIM, TVC, DXM, and TTZ, which are under trading restrictions on the HNX, are also not eligible for margin trading.
Furthermore, the negative after-tax profit attributable to parent company shareholders in the first six months of 2023, as well as the negative undistributed after-tax profit in the audited consolidated semi-annual financial statement for 2023, also led to the margin call on dozens of stocks, including API, EVS, NRC, PVB, DDG, THB, BTS, LDP, SPI, PEN, HEV, GMA, VNF, TJC, VE1, VE3, VE4, etc.
In addition, being listed for less than 6 months is also one of the reasons why stocks like DTG, PPT, and VFS were included in the margin call list for Q4.
Some stocks had their margin trading suspended by HNX in the fourth quarter.
Companies that are listed and fail to disclose their audited semi-annual financial statements for 2023 by more than 5 working days from the deadline, such as LCD, PGT, SDA, SRA, VC2; or companies that receive a conclusion from the tax authorities regarding violations of tax laws, such as VNT, TTZ, will also have their shares placed on the list of ineligible stocks for margin trading.
According to regulations, investors will not be allowed to use the credit limit (financial leverage - margin) granted by the brokerage firm to purchase 94 stocks that are on the list of securities ineligible for margin trading.
Previously, the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HoSE) also announced a list of 86 securities that were ineligible for margin trading in the fourth quarter of 2023, including many familiar stocks such as NVL, FRT, HBC, HSG, HPX, SMC, HAG, IBC, POM, ITA,... Thus, the list of stocks whose margin trading was cut on both stock exchanges at the beginning of the fourth quarter includes 180 stocks .
