The 2024 rice farmer support plan aims to promote the application of scientific and technological advances, reduce production costs, create safe rice products, and meet market demand. Thereby, contributing to increasing income, raising farmers' awareness of high-quality, safe rice production, reducing environmental impacts, and moving towards green, sustainable agriculture . This is also the basis for the agricultural sector to deploy and replicate the Sustainable Development Project of 1 million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030.
The plan sets out the goal of mobilizing 10 cooperatives and cooperative groups to participate in the model, with a total area of 50 hectares. In particular, the goal is to apply a maximum amount of 80kg/ha of rice seeds; the profit margin of rice growers when participating in the model reaches at least 30% compared to traditional farming; the rate of applying synchronous mechanization reaches at least 50%; striving for about 40% of the area to have straw collected from the fields. At the same time, striving for 1,800 farmers inside and outside the model to improve their knowledge, through organizing 60 training courses and 10 seminars on technical advances in rice production.
Farmers are supported with techniques to produce high quality rice.
An Giang Agricultural Extension Center has implemented models of comprehensive application of technical advances in commercial rice production, including: Model of applying 3-in-1 drone equipment for sowing; model of applying cluster sowing equipment for sowing in Tan Chau Town, Tinh Bien Town, Thoai Son District. In the 2024 autumn-winter crop and 2024-2025 winter-spring crop, the total area implemented is 350 hectares. The models are supported with 50% of 3-in-1 drone equipment, 50% of certified seeds, 50% of inorganic fertilizers and 30% of pesticides.
As a result, the cost of the model field is 4.6 million VND/ha lower than the control field, due to the reduction of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and labor costs during the production process. The average profit of the field in the model using drone equipment is more than 29.7 million VND/ha, about 5.9 million VND/ha higher than the control. When participating, farmers have the opportunity to attend training, guidance, and update knowledge on the process of cultivating high-quality, low-emission rice, the process of applying mechanization, and technical advances in production. Thereby, contributing to changing people's awareness of applying mechanization, improving production efficiency.
By applying cluster sowing equipment, An Giang Agricultural Extension Center implemented 3 models, with a total area of 150 hectares in the 2024 autumn-winter crop in Thoai Son district. The models were supported with 50% of cluster sowing equipment, 50% of certified seeds, 50% of inorganic fertilizers and 30% of pesticides. As a result, the production cost of the model fields was 3.4 million VND/ha lower than the control. The average profit reached more than 24.7 million VND/ha, 4.6 million VND/ha higher than the control fields.
Farmers participating in the model are also updated and introduced to technical advances, using technological equipment from sowing to harvesting in rice production; content and procedures for implementing standards in current rice production, such as: "1 must 5 reductions", SRP, procedures for granting growing area codes, technical procedures for producing high-quality, low-emission rice, etc.
In general, the models implemented in the 2024 Rice Grower Support Plan have helped farmers see that the application of technical advances and mechanization in production brings practical efficiency, helping to reduce production costs, while still ensuring productivity and profits compared to traditional farming. In addition, it helps farmers limit direct contact with toxic chemicals, protect the health of producers and consumers, and limit environmental pollution.
Based on the results achieved, An Giang Agricultural Extension Center proposed to continue supporting the implementation of the commercial rice production model in the direction of synchronous application of mechanization and synthesis of technical advances in production, such as: "1 must 5 reductions" process combined with ecological technology; high-quality and low-emission rice production process; application of microbiological products to treat straw after harvest in parallel with training farmers on this technique.
In addition, it is necessary to replicate the model; promote propaganda in the press and social networks, to mobilize farmers to actively participate in producing high-quality rice, contributing to improving the quality and value of An Giang rice grains in the market.
