(Dan Tri Newspaper) - With a dramatic 5-4 victory in the final after a decisive penalty shootout, the female players of Binh Lieu High School won the championship of the 2024 Quang Ninh Province Ethnic Minority Women's Football Tournament.

On the morning of October 27th, the 2024 Women's Football Tournament for Ethnic Minorities in Quang Ninh Province officially opened, featuring exciting, captivating, and dramatic matches at the football field of the Cultural Center in Huc Dong Commune (Binh Lieu District, Quang Ninh Province).

This is the first time Quang Ninh has organized a grassroots women's football tournament specifically for women from ethnic minority groups in the province. The tournament is jointly organized by the Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism , and the Binh Lieu District People's Committee.

The tournament features 7 women's football teams from various localities in the province, including Vo Ngai, Luc Hon, Binh Lieu town, Tien Yen, Hoanh Mo High School, Binh Lieu High School, and the host team from Huc Dong commune. The tournament is divided into 2 groups, with matches played continuously over 5 days from October 27th to 31st.

Women's football for ethnic minorities is a unique tourism product, organized for many years during festivals in Huc Dong commune (Binh Lieu district) and some neighboring localities, attracting a large number of tourists from all over and local people in the province to watch and cheer. This year, the tournament has been upgraded to a provincial scale, aiming to practically respond to the Binh Lieu Golden Harvest Festival 2024, while also effectively concretizing the Project on preserving, restoring and promoting ethnic sports in the province, and creating an additional tourism product to attract tourists to this borderland.

Despite being an amateur tournament, the female players from ethnic minorities provided viewers with beautiful and dramatic moments. A prime example is the breakaway and one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper, resulting in a goal by the striker from Binh Lieu High School in the opening match (October 27th).

The goalkeeper of the Binh Lieu town team made a successful save, drawing admiration from the spectators. The San Chi women took to the field wearing traditional attire: black skirts, blue blouses, and no numbers, while the Binh Lieu High School team wore pink shirts. To distinguish them, teams had to wear either dark or light colored shirts, or if one team wore a headscarf, the other would go bareheaded…

The players in skirts displayed lightning-fast dribbling and skillful ball control. At this year's tournament, teams registered and competed in their traditional ethnic costumes, playing on a 7-a-side pitch according to the 7-a-side football rules issued by the Vietnam Football Federation.

While waiting for their turn to play, the female players from Huc Dong commune stood outside the field cheering on the teams in action. Most of the women on the Huc Dong team are married and have participated in many local football tournaments over the past 10 years, since they were 15-16 years old.

After five days of exciting competition, the two best teams to compete for the championship in the final on October 31st were Tien Yen team (blue jerseys) and Binh Lieu High School team (pink jerseys).

These are two young teams that regularly train together every week, especially with the students from Binh Lieu school.

The decisive nature of the final match was evident in the fierce, fearless, and tenacious tackles and challenges from the female players.

Besides that, there were also plenty of skillful, artistic plays, especially the ball handling of Ly Thi Thu Nhat (in the blue jersey, Tien Yen team) - the top scorer of the tournament with 6 goals.

After 60 minutes of regulation time, the score was 1-1 with two goals in each half. The two teams proceeded to a penalty shootout. With decisive shots from teammates and a successful penalty save by goalkeeper Dang Thi Son, Binh Lieu High School won the shootout 5-4.

The young female players from Binh Lieu High School erupted in joy after winning the championship.

At the end of the tournament, the organizing committee awarded the gold medal, the first-place flag, and the championship trophy to Binh Lieu High School, second place to Tien Yen team, and joint third place to Binh Lieu town team and Hoanh Mo High School team. The fair play award went to Huc Dong team. The organizing committee also presented supplementary awards: top scorer, best goalkeeper, best player, youngest player, oldest player, best dressed player, and Miss Tournament.
