Hoang Phuong Thao – an actress already known to television viewers through many supporting roles and film projects – made a strong impression on the public after portraying the character Lan in the film "Wind Across the Blue Sky".

Although not a main character, this role sparked lively discussion among viewers thanks to the actress's distinctly villainous personality and her immersive performance.

She hopes to have more challenging roles to fully express her creative potential in the arts. (Photo provided by the subject in the article)

Villain – Challenging Yourself

In the film, Lan is portrayed as a shrewish and manipulative office worker who constantly meddles in other people's affairs and doesn't hesitate to use words to exploit and scrutinize her colleagues. This is the first time Hoang Phuong Thao has taken on a truly villainous role – a type of character that, according to her, is "full of familiar negative traits in the workplace."

Sharing about the process of embodying the role, Phuong Thao said that for her, the most difficult thing was learning to "live differently from herself" in order to convincingly portray the expressions, gaze, and behavior of the villain. She meticulously practiced the small details – from the curious glance to the look of annoyance when hating someone – to create an authentic Lan and impress the audience.

Memorable scenes and sacrifices for the role: One of the most attention-grabbing scenes is when Lan slaps the character Ngan (played by actress Viet Hoa). This scene required the actress to maintain a constant emotional intensity, demanding precise timing – a major challenge for any actor.

Phuong Thao said that the slap was "real" and she even got bruises after the scene because of collisions with props and the surroundings on set.

Phuong Thao expressed that whether she takes on a supporting or leading role, she must be truly serious about her profession, as that is a way of showing respect to the audience.

Public reaction: From hatred to acceptance

After the show aired, the character Lan quickly became the focus of discussion on social media. Many viewers expressed their intense dislike for the role, even comparing Lan to famous villains before her, such as Nguyet "the manipulative one"—a villainous icon who was once both loved and hated in the world of television dramas.

That comparison surprised and delighted Hoang Phuong Thao, as it showed that her role had truly resonated with the public. Phuong Thao said that she didn't see those negative comments as something to be afraid of, but rather as a sign that her character had truly come alive for the audience – even if it meant viewers disliked the character. For her, this was a valuable step forward in her career.

She said she would take on other jobs to support her passion for film and television.

Her artistic journey and diverse roles: Before "Wind Across the Blue Sky," Hoang Phuong Thao was known for many other film and television projects, such as: Bi, Don't Be Afraid, Let's Love Each Other Peacefully, or No Time...

Those roles established a stable position for her in the hearts of the audience – especially television viewers – as a versatile actress capable of playing many different types of roles.

Besides acting, Hoang Phuong Thao also attracts attention with her appearance, which many people say has a harmonious beauty reminiscent of famous Asian stars, making her image even more widespread on social media and in film-loving communities.

Phuong Thao started her acting career quite early when she participated in the film: Bi, Don't Be Afraid

Villain roles – Challenges and opportunities

According to Hoang Phuong Thao, the biggest challenge when taking on difficult roles like Lan is maintaining emotional intensity throughout the scene, preventing any "carelessness" from affecting the quality of the performance. This is a valuable lesson in her career, as each character is not just about dialogue but also a psychological and expressive test for the actor.

She expressed her desire to continue experiencing a wider variety of roles in the future – including psychologically complex, deeper, and more challenging characters.

For Hoang Phuong Thao, each role is an opportunity to hone her skills and expand her acting potential, rather than simply making an impression on the public.
