On December 3rd, from Türkiye, Mr. Hoang Dang Quang - a teacher at Hong Bang Secondary School, District 5, Ho Chi Minh City - and coach of the Hong Bang 1 team - announced that the team he coaches had just won third place in the World Robotics Olympiad (WRO).
Accordingly, the Hong Bang 1 team, consisting of students Hoang Chan Nguyen and Nguyen Thien Nhan (Ho Chi Minh City High School for the Gifted) and Vu Duc Hung Anh (Le Quy Don High School, Ho Chi Minh City), achieved 3rd place in the 11-15 age group RoboMission category, surpassing hundreds of teams from 87 countries.
The three students in the Hong Bang 1 team are currently in 10th grade at the aforementioned schools; they were all former students of Hong Bang Junior High School. The Hong Bang 1 team is one of the national winning teams that became Vietnam's representative to compete in the world championships.

Analyzing this victory, Mr. Quang said that to win, the students had to put in maximum effort and focus during the three days of competition. This competition required programming skills, robot design skills, sound strategic analysis, and good teamwork.
"On the first and second days of the competition, the team performed a standard routine plus an element of surprise. The team faced a lot of pressure during the practice sessions, which went very well, but they were unsuccessful in the first two rounds of the actual competition."
However, they overcame the pressure and finished the first day of competition with a score of 145/147, ranking 12th out of 112 competing teams in the RoboMission category.
On the third day, with a completely new challenge, the team had 165 minutes to work together to calculate the most effective strategy and path for the robot, and program tests to check accuracy and make adjustments. From the start, the team came up with a reasonable solution and achieved a top 3 finish in the first round.
With a psychological advantage, the team continued to perform very well in their final round and secured third place. Although there were some regrets, the whole team was very happy to have achieved the goal set before this year's competition," Mr. Quang added.
Tomorrow, December 4th, the Hong Bang 1 team is expected to arrive in Ho Chi Minh City.
500 teams from 87 countries participated in WRO 2024.
WRO 2024 can be considered the most fiercely competitive international STEM robotics arena today, bringing together the best talents from all over the world.
This year, the competition took place in Turkey with the participation of over 500 representatives from more than 87 countries, over three extremely intense days of competition, from November 28 to 30.
Vietnam has 14 teams representing the age groups of 8-19.
Among the participating teams, Vietnam won two top-ranked prizes: second place went to team GV2-HSRL-01 with students from Giang Vo 2 Secondary School - Hanoi ; followed by Hong Bang 1 team from Ho Chi Minh City, which won third place.
