Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac is a great physician. He was born 300 years ago. Since ancient times, this "lazy old man" has been a studious person and has decided to devote his whole life to medicine, to wholeheartedly treat people, especially the poor. Although he once traveled from his hometown of Huong Son ( Ha Tinh ) to the capital to treat kings, a trip he vividly described in his work "Thuong Kinh Ky Su", he was still a "Great Physician of the People", serving the people his whole life. Also because of the ideal of serving the people, serving the sick, Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac promoted the spirit of lifelong learning. Only by lifelong learning, learning from the simplest herbal remedies, to ways to treat many serious diseases, which Hai Thuong Lan Ong summarized in the great book "Hai Thuong y ton tam linh". This book series consists of 28 volumes, 66 books, covering all aspects of medicine: medical ethics, medical theory, medical techniques, pharmacy, and nutrition.

Having such a great career is thanks to Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac who studied all his life, "closed the door to read books", and acquired a lot of medical knowledge. The spirit of lifelong learning not only created Hai Thuong Lan Ong, but also created great people in the history of the Vietnamese nation, a typical example in our time is the great self-study example of President Ho Chi Minh . For our Uncle Ho, from the time he boarded the ship Amiral Latouche Treville, leaving Nha Rong port in 1911, from the day Ba worked as a kitchen assistant on the ship to France until the end of his life, he spent all his time self-studying, studying more, studying forever. Uncle Ho self-studied all his life, to spend his whole life fighting for independence and freedom for the country and the people. The specific jobs that Uncle Ho experienced during the years he was named Nguyen Ai Quoc, were very ordinary jobs, but he had to learn to know, and he knew thanks to self-study. Like the story of Uncle Ho going to America and learning baking, to become an excellent baker in a famous hotel in Boston from 1911 - 1913, the place known as the "Intellectual City" of America. "The special chef has brought honor to this place...", that is the comment of American female writer Susan Wilson. Learning to bake, to become a professional, to be good at that profession, is also self-learning a not small amount of knowledge.
Now, students should follow the spirit of lifelong learning by the first, very easy thing to do: reading books. Taking advantage of the time to read books, to find books suitable for their age to read, you have already entered a very long path - "lifelong learning". Parents, we adults, if we really care about the development of knowledge for our children, we should encourage our children to read books, find and guide our children to read good books. That is also an important responsibility of the school, of the teachers, to guide students to read books.
Until now, when I am almost 80 years old, I still cannot forget the first books I read, which I loved so much when reading them. It is true that books have quietly taught me many things, and my growth and maturity are also partly thanks to books. The more we read, the more we see that the ocean of knowledge is vast, and we are just a small boat, overcoming the storms of life but still cannot reach the end of that ocean of knowledge.
From the thoughts about the process of self-learning through reading, a group of our friends decided to propose and call on everyone in society to join hands to build a library system named “Dang Thuy Tram Library” - a female doctor - heroic martyr, but during her life she was an intellectual who loved reading books and writing diaries as a daily job, right in the midst of the war. Now, “Dang Thuy Tram Diary” has been translated and printed in many countries around the world, and Ms. Dang Thuy Tram has become a symbol of the spirit of lifelong learning and lifelong reading. Lifelong self-learning and lifelong reading help each of us become the person we are!
