Construction on the Van Phong expressway is proceeding at a rapid pace.

The Van Phong - Nha Trang Expressway, spanning 83.35 km (passing through four localities: Van Ninh District, Ninh Hoa Town, Dien Khanh District, and Khanh Vinh District), has a total investment of 11,808 billion VND. The project's starting point connects to the southern access road to the Co Ma Tunnel (Van Ninh District), and its end point connects to the starting point of the Nha Trang - Cam Lam section of the project.

The Van Phong - Nha Trang expressway project commenced on January 1, 2023, divided into two packages, XL01 and XL02, with basic completion expected in 2025 and commissioning from 2026.

The two aforementioned contracts were awarded to the consortium of Lizen JSC, Phuong Thanh Transportation Investment and Construction Company, Hai Dang JSC, and E&C Construction Investment JSC; and the consortium of Son Hai Group Co., Ltd. - Vietnam Import-Export and Construction Corporation.

To date, the entire project has mobilized 39 construction teams (24 road construction teams, 15 bridge construction teams) with a total of 1,323 personnel and 658 pieces of construction equipment of various types.

Mr. Dang Van Dung, Director of the Van Phong - Nha Trang Expressway Project (Project Management Board 7, Ministry of Transport ), said that to date, localities have handed over 99.6% of the land. Currently, only 0.32 km in Ninh Hoa town (accounting for 0.4%) remains unhanded over, and the power infrastructure has not yet been relocated.

In areas where land has been cleared, contractors are accelerating construction progress.

A representative from the contractor Lizen stated that, despite facing difficulties with weather conditions and some infrastructure bottlenecks, the project they are undertaking has so far reached 34% of the contract value, exceeding the planned schedule by 32%.

Currently, the contractor is focusing on laying the asphalt, working urgently to complete the project on schedule.

In the days leading up to the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Dragon, workers and machinery were still working diligently on the construction site.

"Even though it's close to Tet (Lunar New Year), the team's work ethic remains high and proactive in achieving the planned goals," shared Mr. Banh Van Anh, Construction Executive Director of Lizen Construction Company.

Project Management Board 7 reported that 99.6% of the land along the expressway has been handed over by the districts and towns. However, 0.32 km in Ninh Hoa town remains incomplete, and importantly, the power line infrastructure has not yet been relocated, leading to difficulties in construction.

Specifically, 153 intersection locations (medium and low voltage power lines, telecommunication cables, etc.) have been approved by the local authorities. To date, 55 locations have been relocated, 47 are under construction, and 42 locations (in Ninh Hoa town) have not yet been implemented due to the lack of contractor selection. The 110 kV power lines (9 locations) have had their designs approved, but the contractors for relocation have not yet been selected. Regarding the 11 220 kV line locations assessed by the Electricity and Renewable Energy Department ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ), assessment reports have been submitted for 10 out of 11 locations.

In the two construction packages, the cumulative output reached over 2,625 billion VND (equivalent to 36.8% of the contract value). Specifically, package XL01 reached 36.3% of the contract (1.1% ahead of schedule); package XL02 reached 37.5% of the contract (3.2% ahead of schedule). Disbursed capital in 2023 (including capital carried over from 2022) exceeded 4,131 billion VND (almost 100% of the allocated capital plan).

The Van Phong - Nha Trang Expressway is one of 12 component projects under the North-South Expressway Eastern section investment and construction project, phase 2021-2025. The project's construction scale includes: an expressway, with the completed phase being a Class 120 expressway, designed speed of 120 km/h, roadbed width of 32.25m, and 6 lanes; and the phased construction corresponding to a Class 100 expressway standard, designed speed of 100 km/h, and roadbed width of 17m.
