Conference to evaluate and classify OCOP products, second phase, 2026

On the morning of May 30th, Mr. Cao Van Cuong, Provincial Party Committee member, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, and Chairman of the Provincial OCOP Product Evaluation and Classification Council (hereinafter referred to as the Council), chaired the second OCOP product evaluation and classification conference of 2026. Attending the conference were members of the Council, the working group, and the participating entities and localities with products.

According to a report from the Provincial Office for Coordinating the New Rural Development Program, 21 products from 17 entities across 14 communes and wards are participating in the second round of OCOP product evaluation, recognition, and upgrading in 2026. This includes 20 new products that meet the criteria for submission to the evaluation and ranking council, and the Huong Moc Lac Tien lotus leaf tea product from Sao Vang commune, which was carried over from the first evaluation and ranking round in 2026.

At the conference, the Council members conducted a detailed assessment and scored each product based on its content and criteria. Accordingly, the products participating in the evaluation and ranking were all exemplary products, with the business owners focusing on improving quality and expanding markets; the legal procedures demonstrating production capacity included: business registration certificates, various contracts, product safety certificates, self-declaration documents, quality indicator analysis reports, and complete packaging and labeling.

Representatives from the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment participated and offered their opinions at the conference.

In addition, the Council members discussed and clarified the evaluation criteria; and at the same time, requested OCOP entities to continue applying science and technology, improving designs, enhancing quality, meeting market demands, and aiming for export.

Specifically for the Lotus Leaf Tea with Fragrant Herbs product from Sao Vang commune, which was carried over from the first batch of 2026, the Advisory Team of the Council coordinated with the People's Committee of the commune to guide the product owner in overcoming the limitations pointed out by the Council, ensuring that it meets the conditions for evaluation and classification under the OCOP program.

Representatives from the Department of Industry and Trade participated in the discussion.

Accordingly, at the second product evaluation and ranking conference of 2026, 4 products met the criteria for OCOP 4-star recognition (2 newly recognized products, 1 re-recognized product, and 1 upgraded product); 14 products met the criteria for OCOP 3-star recognition. The remaining products did not meet the criteria, and the Council recommended that they be reviewed in the next round.

Concluding the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Cao Van Cuong highly appreciated the proactive and positive efforts of the working group, communes, wards, and businesses in producing quality products for this OCOP product evaluation and ranking. The Vice Chairman instructed the Department of Agriculture and Environment to review the dossiers, verify information, answer questions; compile complete and accurate scoring results and opinions of the council members; and promptly advise the Provincial People's Committee on issuing decisions recognizing products that meet the standards. At the same time, he directed the localities to support businesses that have not yet met the standards to complete the necessary improvements based on the feedback from the conference and to support and create favorable conditions for OCOP products to develop in a substantive, sustainable manner, truly deserving to be recognized as typical and distinctive products of the province.
