Mr. Nguyen Kien Giang , Deputy Head of the Department of Traffic Works Maintenance and Operation Management (Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction) said that the Thanh Da peninsula area currently has three key projects, including section 2: Saigon River - Saigon Domaine Hotel; section 3: Binh Quoi - Cay Bang - Rach Chua; section 4: Saigon River - Ly Hoang villa area to La San Mai Thon church.

Previously, these projects were invested by the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board, but the construction progress was delayed due to Anh Vinh Group Corporation's breach of contract. The investor decided to terminate the contract with this contractor according to the provisions of Clause 11, Article 117 of Decree 63/2014/ND-CP.
After selecting a new contractor, the projects have resumed construction. Accordingly, Section 2 has been restarted since September 2025, expected to be completed in March 2026; Section 3 has been restarted since June 25, 2025, expected to be completed in December 2025; Section 4 is being re-deployed since August 22, 2025, expected to be completed in February 2026.
Mr. Nguyen Kien Giang affirmed that replacing the contractor is necessary to soon complete the embankment system to protect the Saigon River bank, ensuring safety for people in the Thanh Da peninsula area.
In addition, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction also coordinated with the Ho Chi Minh City Civil Defense - Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue Command, Binh Quoi Ward People's Committee, Waterway Management Center and Traffic Department to inspect the actual landslide points along the Saigon River.
Through inspection, the Department of Construction requested the Traffic Department to urgently handle landslide locations, erect barriers and install danger warning signs; at the same time, coordinate with local authorities to prevent encroachment, affecting construction progress.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction also requested to review the responsibilities of relevant units in the delay, handle it according to the contract and legal regulations; at the same time, strengthen riverbed monitoring, closely monitor load-bearing items to promptly report when there are unusual developments.
Faced with the situation of high tides affecting the lives of people in Thanh Da area, the Traffic Department has reinforced temporary embankments, erected barriers, arranged 24/7 staff and machinery and equipment ready to respond to incidents, ensuring safety for riverside residential areas.
