Workshop "Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Smart Newsroom Management"

This morning, May 15th, in Hanoi, the Economic & Urban Newspaper organized a seminar titled "Applying Artificial Intelligence in Smart Newsroom Management." The event was attended by numerous experts in the field of journalism and media, leaders of central and provincial media agencies nationwide, and speakers representing leading information technology companies.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution has brought about major changes in all aspects of social life. This is not just a need but has become a mandatory requirement, determining the survival of media organizations. Therefore, building converged newsrooms, digital newsrooms, and smart newsrooms, in accordance with Decision No. 348/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister : Approving the Strategy for Digital Transformation of Journalism until 2025, with orientation to 2030, is an inevitable trend.

On October 17, 2024, the Economic & Urban Newspaper officially launched its converged newsroom. This marks a significant milestone in implementing a digital transformation model aimed at improving content quality management and office administration through the application of information technology and artificial intelligence in operational activities using a converged, multi-platform mechanism on a single CMS.

The workshop "Application of Artificial Intelligence in Smart Newsroom Management" focused on key issues such as: enhancing the relationship between high-quality vocational training institutions and media organizations in the age of artificial intelligence; applying AI in media operations; solutions to strengthen information security in the journalism industry during digital transformation; journalistic ethics in the technological era: the issue of fake news and privacy; digital transformation and the issue of building a smart newsroom at the Economic & Urban Newspaper...

Speaking at the conference, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thanh Loi, Editor-in-Chief of the Economic & Urban Newspaper, emphasized that digital transformation in journalism helps to enrich the digital journalism ecosystem with new and superior features, improving the quality and effectiveness of communication.

This is a new and rather challenging activity to organize and implement; however, in the context of the 4.0 industrial revolution and the current competitive information environment, good content alone is not enough. It is also necessary to create new experiences for readers through digital technology applications.

A smart newsroom is a multi-platform, multi-tool model where the organization of departments, the arrangement of published content, and the working methods of reporters differ significantly from traditional newsrooms. The converged newsroom and smart newsroom models are inevitable trends in the near future, as they converge on a flexible digital platform where every stage of the journalistic process—from collection, processing, production to distribution—is digitized and optimized using modern technologies such as AI, Big Data, Cloud Computing, Blockchain, and IoT. Simultaneously, it effectively manages the electronic office; converts text to audio, converts audio, images, and PDFs to text, provides chatboxes, checks for spelling errors, manages copyright, supports search and topic suggestions, optimizes user experience, and allows access to digitized documents directly within the same system.
