BHG - For 61 years, accompanying the Party Committee, government, and people of all ethnic groups in Ha Giang province, the Reporter Department of Ha Giang Newspaper, now the News Department, has always been a gathering place for dedicated, courageous, and ambitious journalists. From leaving their mark on the grassroots to winning numerous national journalism awards, the News Department has affirmed its indispensable role as the "backbone" of the local Party newspaper in the far north of the country.
From a strong tradition…
For over six decades, since the historic milestone of the establishment of the Ha Giang Newspaper Editorial Office and the publication of the first issue (April 13, 1964), the News Department has not only affirmed its core role in content creation but has also been considered the "soul" and "backbone" that has shaped the identity and prestige of the local Party newspaper.

With its highly mobile and independent nature, closely connected to grassroots realities, each reporter acts as both a writer and a problem discoverer, connecting information and reflecting the pulse of life truthfully and vividly. Many generations of reporters who have grown up in the News Department have become pillars of the editorial office or hold important positions in major media organizations. This has created a lasting impression, affirming the quality and continuous contributions of the News Department to the press in general and the province's communication work in particular. Notable examples include: Dang Quang Vuong and Sung Mi Chu - former Deputy Editors-in-Chief of Ha Giang Newspaper; Nguyen Binh Minh and Mai Ngoc Quynh - Deputy Editors-in-Chief of Ha Giang Newspaper; Nguyen Trung Thu - Provincial Party Committee member and Editor-in-Chief of Ha Giang Newspaper; and Nguyen Tran Be, former Vice Chairman of the Provincial Association of Literature and Arts. Dao Minh Tam, Head of the Vietnam News Agency's permanent office in Ha Giang, or Trinh Khanh Toan, currently the Head of the Nhan Dan Newspaper's representative office in Ha Giang…
Sharing about the unique characteristics of journalism in the northernmost border province of Vietnam, journalist Dang Kim Tien – Deputy Head of the News Department – said: “To reach some remote villages, reporters sometimes have to travel more than 200 km along treacherous mountain roads, facing mountains when looking up and abysses when looking down. In winter, fog blankets the roads, and they even face language barriers when ethnic minorities cannot speak the common Vietnamese language.” But it is precisely in these hardships that journalistic qualities are forged. Thanks to their perseverance and willingness to immerse themselves in reality, the News Department produces approximately 4,000-5,000 news articles, reports, and photos each year, exceeding the target by 300%, ensuring that information is always accurate, timely, in-depth, and widely disseminated.
In fact, almost no unexpected event at the local level has been without the presence of reporters from the News Department, from forest fires in the border area of the three communes of Phuong Tien, Xin Chai, and Lao Chai (Vi Xuyen); dangerous landslides in Bac Me and Bac Quang; to the flooding situation in Ha Giang city due to storms and heavy rain… All have been reflected directly and vividly, with a spirit of dedication and commendable professional competence. This is also why the reporters' works are not only well-received by readers but also highly appreciated by experts for their depth and reach.

To enhance the effectiveness of its reporting work, the News Department constantly innovates, adapts flexibly, and becomes more creative in its approach to issues. Currently, with 16 full-time reporters and contract reporters – mostly young, dynamic, and knowledgeable professionals – the Department has effectively implemented the "reporter in charge of a specific area" model. Each district and city has one full-time reporter and one contract reporter working closely together, helping to increase the depth of information and minimize the problem of localized news and article shortages.
…The "golden season" of awards is upon us.
With a spirit of serving the nation and the people, a willingness to go the extra mile, and a bold, proactive approach, the News Department is not only a vibrant source of news for the newspaper but also a breeding ground for many high-quality works. Recognizing that participating in national-level journalism awards is an opportunity to hone skills and enhance professional competence, the News Department has established four core teams to produce articles for these national awards. The entire process is closely supported by the Editorial Board, from idea generation and outline development to presentations, critiques, and final submissions – demonstrating professional thinking, a proactive attitude, and a high sense of responsibility for each journalistic work.

2013 marked a bright milestone when Ha Giang Newspaper won its first Encouragement Award at the National Journalism Awards, thanks to journalist Dang Quang Vuong – then Deputy Editor-in-Chief. However, it wasn't until nearly a decade later that Ha Giang Newspaper truly broke through, making a strong mark on the national journalism map with a series of outstanding achievements, consecutively winning 9 prestigious national awards in less than 4 years (2022-2025), including: 1 Golden Hammer and Sickle Award (C); the Dien Hong Award (C) and Encouragement Award (Dien Hong); the B Award for Gender Equality; the Encouragement Award at the National Journalism Awards, along with 4 other important awards in the fields of: Transportation, Youth Union work, youth and children's movements, and "Studying and following the thoughts, ethics, and style of Ho Chi Minh ".
These awards are vivid evidence of the correct direction, serious investment, systematic strategy, and the dedication and creativity of the reporters in the News Department. Outstanding individuals such as Kim Tien, Bien Luan, Thu Phuong, Nguyen Phuong, Tran Ke, Le Hai, Pham Hoan, Nguyen Dieu… have not only become "brands" in the local journalism scene but also contribute to affirming the position of Ha Giang Newspaper on the national journalism stage. Their works are highly appreciated for their presentation style, content quality, critical depth, and humanistic qualities, reflecting the breath of life and touching the hearts of readers.
With a remarkable track record, impressive workload, and increasingly superior quality, the News Department reflects the inner strength of a united, intelligent, and constantly innovative team. Prestigious awards such as the "Outstanding Labor Collective" title from the Provincial People's Committee, numerous Certificates of Merit from various levels and sectors from the central to local governments for the collective and individuals, along with the trust and affection of readers, are well-deserved recognition for the dedicated efforts of the News Department.
Now, at a historical turning point as Ha Giang province merges with Tuyen Quang to form the new Tuyen Quang province, in line with the Party's policy of streamlining the administrative apparatus, the News Department is facing strategic challenges and opportunities. The Ha Giang Newspaper will merge with the Tuyen Quang Newspaper and Radio and Television Station to form a new unit. However, with a tradition of unity, a spirit of innovation, professional competence, and a desire to contribute, each reporter in the Department will continuously strive to write more glorious chapters in the journey of revolutionary journalism with dedication, responsibility, and a deep love for the sacred northernmost land of the Fatherland.
