Established over 10 years ago, Teacher Tung's volunteer group operates entirely on a voluntary basis, with the unique characteristic of not seeking external funding. Over 70 members, including teachers, civil servants, and workers, contribute voluntarily to the cause.

The group has a long history of providing free meals and porridge at hospitals (once a month), and distributing gifts to the visually impaired, those in difficult circumstances, and poor students both within and outside the province. After a temporary suspension due to the pandemic, the group resumed operations in early 2025 and dedicated its efforts to the "Breakfast of Love" model. On average, once or twice a month on Sundays, these delicious meals are sold for 2,000 VND to poor laborers in the Hai Ba Trung pedestrian street area or at Le Quy Don Primary School in Long Xuyen ward.

The "Breakfast of Love" model continues the beautiful story of human kindness in the city. Mr. Vo Thanh Tung, Principal of Le Quy Don Primary School and the founder and driving force behind the group for over 10 years, shared: "Seeing the joy of the workers when they buy a meal for 2,000 VND makes me and the members incredibly happy. That is the greatest motivation for the group to maintain the model."

Many people might wonder why the group charges 2,000 VND instead of giving things away for free. According to the group members, 2,000 VND isn't enough to buy a candy, but it holds immense sentimental value. Ms. Nguyen Truong Diem Chi, a member of Teacher Tung's volunteer group, said: "Initially, the group planned to implement a 'Free Breakfast' model on weekends to support people in difficult circumstances in the area. Then, we realized that giving things away for free might be embarrassing for many, so we came up with the idea of charging 2,000 VND for a plate of rice or a bowl of noodles. This price is affordable for everyone, so people can contribute to the fundraising effort."

It is this thoughtful consideration that makes the 2,000 VND breakfast meals so light and heartwarming. Poor laborers, motorbike taxi drivers, lottery ticket vendors, and scrap collectors come to eat with a relaxed mindset. They don't feel like they're "begging," but rather enjoying a delicious breakfast shared by kind-hearted people.

Each time they deploy their volunteer group, Mr. Tung prepares 1,000 meals or more. What's commendable is that the group always reserves about 350 meals completely free of charge, which members then deliver directly to the elderly at the Long Xuyen Orphanage and Lonely Elderly Education Center and the Provincial Social Welfare Center. The remaining more than 600 meals are then sold to the public for 2,000 VND each.

Receiving a delicious breakfast of stir-fried pork noodles from the volunteers, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Xai (79 years old), who lives at the Long Xuyen Center for Orphaned Children and Lonely Elderly People, said emotionally: “I have no family and have been here for 7 years. Life at the center is comfortable, I have enough food three times a day, and every now and then groups come to visit, give gifts, and bring delicious food like this. I am very happy.”

Ms. Quách Thị Vân (74 years old), living at the Long Xuyên Center for Orphaned Children and Lonely Elderly People, slowly said: “I had no home, so I had to rent a house since I was 30. Now I live at the center, being cared for by the government and having my two grandchildren attend 12th and 9th grade. Receiving my favorite stir-fried pork noodle soup for breakfast makes me very happy!”

The journey of Teacher Tung's volunteer group, spanning over 10 years, continues. We believe that the quiet actions, stemming from the benevolent hearts of Teacher Tung, Ms. Chi, and the other members of the group, nurture and spread positive humanitarian values in society.
