On the morning of May 31st, authorities in Tri An ward, Dong Nai city, continued to assist residents in removing dead fish from cages and rafts in Tri An lake.
According to the Tri An ward authorities, fish raised by many households on Tri An Lake suddenly died and floated to the surface after heavy rains on the evenings of May 30th and 31st. Initial reports indicate that approximately 100 tons of various types of carp and catfish belonging to local households have died.
Immediately after receiving the information, the Tri An ward authorities mobilized specialized departments, military forces, local security forces, neighborhood committees, and forest rangers from the Dong Nai Cultural and Natural Reserve to assist residents in collecting the dead fish and bringing them ashore to protect the environment of Tri An Lake; at the same time, fish farmers were able to salvage some of their losses by selling the dead fish to a unit that produces bio-fertilizer.

Following the mass fish deaths, local authorities notified the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Nai City, which dispatched specialists to the scene to investigate and clarify the cause of the mass fish deaths.
Initially, it was believed that heavy rainfall, combined with high stocking densities, led to a lack of oxygen, causing mass fish deaths.
To clarify the cause, officials from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Nai City took samples of fish and water from the farming area for testing and investigation.
“Today, May 31st, we continue to mobilize militia forces to assist people in removing the dead fish to prevent environmental pollution. At the same time, we are coordinating with the Department of Agriculture and Environment to clarify the cause and propose solutions, as well as reporting and recommending to the People's Committee of Dong Nai City solutions to support the affected people,” said Nguyen Thi Dung, Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Tri An Ward.
