Regarding the incident where more than 20 elementary school students in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City, vomited and were hospitalized after returning from school, as reported by Thanh Nien newspaper, this afternoon, April 10th, Mr. Phan Thanh Phong, Principal of Vo Thi Sau Elementary School (District 7), informed that after parents complained and the school reported the incident, relevant authorities came to the school to investigate and collect samples of food from April 9th for testing to determine the cause of the incident.
According to Mr. Phong, the school's lunch menu for students is publicly available weekly on its website. The school lunch on April 9th included: fried chicken wings with fish sauce, stir-fried chayote and carrots, sour cabbage soup, and UHT milk with strawberry flavor.
The menu also states that the school lunch at Vo Thi Sau Primary School is provided by Xich Long Food Company Limited.
The principal of Vo Thi Sau Primary School said that the school will provide information after the authorities have the test results and conclusions.
Speaking with a Thanh Nien reporter this afternoon, a parent whose child, a third-grade student, is being treated at District 7 Hospital said that after testing, the hospital diagnosed the student with "bacterial intestinal infection - suspected food poisoning." Currently, two other students from the same school are also being treated in the same ward.
On the morning of April 10th, Vo Thi Sau Primary School submitted a report to the relevant authorities. According to the report, on the evening of April 9th, at approximately 6:49 PM, Ms. Le Thi Minh Hieu, a member of the parent-teacher association for class 3/2 and also the Vice-Chairperson of the school's parent-teacher association, informed parents of students in classes 3/3, 3/4, and 3/5 that some children were experiencing stomach pain and vomiting.
This morning, April 10th, the school's medical department compiled a list and received reports from homeroom teachers that 21 students were absent from school due to stomach aches, vomiting, and diarrhea, some of which occurred since the night of April 9th. Of these, 7 children were taken to the hospital for examination and have been discharged to be cared for and monitored at home. Currently, the condition of all 21 children has stabilized.
Class 3/6 just reported that one student vomited at home and went for a check-up this morning, April 10th, and was admitted to the hospital for monitoring.
Based on the information gathered, the school has requested the medical department to keep the sealed food samples from April 9th intact.
Vo Thi Sau Primary School reported these cases to the Health Department and the District 7 Health Center for guidance on how to handle them.
