Data from the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) also shows that 6.3 million people are on the brink of starvation, the highest number ever recorded in Sudan.
To respond to this situation, the WFP planned to provide emergency food and nutrition assistance to approximately 6.5 million people, but limited humanitarian access hampered these plans.
The World Food Programme (WFP) has provided essential food supplies to more than 3 million people since the conflict broke out in Sudan. According to the WFP, without this support, people would be at greater risk of starvation and famine.
The months-long conflict between the Sudanese army and the rival paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has killed more than 9,000 people and displaced over 5.6 million.
According to a new report by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), more than 8,000 people fled Sudan to neighboring Chad in the past week alone. This number may be lower than the actual figure due to issues with tracking the registration of new arrivals.
On November 7, Saudi Arabia announced that the warring parties in Sudan had made no progress toward a ceasefire following the latest round of peace talks in Jeddah.
