Gaza - a test of humanity's conscience.

When aid is turned into a lure, and food becomes a life-threatening trap, compassion—a core human value—is being pushed to its limits amidst the flames of war.

People line up to receive food aid in Rafah, Gaza Strip.

Peace negotiations for the conflict in the Gaza Strip continue to be deadlocked. Every day, bombs and shelling claim the lives of civilians, including women and children.

In less than 10 days in mid-June 2025, more than 200 Palestinian civilians were killed while queuing for aid in the Gaza Strip – which should have been the last refuge for life.

This is not just the tragedy of a conflict, but a painful wake-up call to the civilized world : are humanitarian principles being systematically distorted in the shadows of war?

According to the United Nations Office for Humanitarian Coordination (OCHA), between June 16 and 24 alone, at least 231 civilians were killed and nearly 600 others injured while receiving aid at food and medical distribution points in Gaza – areas designated as “humanitarian corridors” far from direct combat zones.

The majority of victims were women, children, and the elderly. The repeated attacks cannot be excused as "operational errors."

According to the 1949 Geneva Conventions—the foundation of international humanitarian law—all attacks on civilians and humanitarian facilities are strictly prohibited. When areas bearing the United Nations designation become military targets, it is not only a violation of international law, but also an insult to global conscience.

In Gaza, a bag of bread, a bottle of clean water, or a few pills—things that should be symbols of humanity—have now become the price paid with lives. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), many civilians have died trying to get into aid centers just to obtain these basic necessities.

These “safe zones” have become targets of fire, where hope is stifled by artillery fire and cries of anguish. Humanitarian aid has been turned into a cold-blooded trap – a form of violence that not only takes lives but also destroys the will and dignity of the Palestinians.

This is no longer a "side effect" of war, but a strategy of psychological terror, using calculated violence to break the resistance of an entire nation.

Amidst the desperate crowds, blood continues to be shed. And while lives are being sacrificed for a bag of rice or a pill, the international community's response remains largely limited to familiar phrases: "expressing concern," "calling for restraint," and "continuing to closely monitor the situation."

Words designed to maintain peace now lack power and meaning in the face of a reality where humanitarian law is openly trampled upon. Attacks on aid corridors are no longer accidents, but a deliberate strategy that challenges the entire international legal system.

On June 3, 2025, UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for an independent investigation and demanded that Israel restore unconditional humanitarian aid. But to this day, bloodshed continues, even after calls at the highest level.

The nagging question still hangs in the air:

Are human lives being categorized?

Is a child in Gaza any less deserving of life than a child in Europe or America?

If silence continues to prevail, then the civilization that humanity is so proud of is sounding an alarm – not because of bombs and bullets, but because of indifference.

A baby never got to touch a loaf of bread before it was gone forever. A mother collapsed amidst the starving crowd, still clutching her child in her arms. They were not mere "secondary casualties," but living witnesses to the decline of human morality in our time.

Gaza, amidst its devastation and ruin, is becoming a mirror reflecting global conscience.

Prior to the tragedy in Gaza, Vietnam repeatedly spoke out strongly at international forums, expressing deep concern about civilian casualties, especially women and children; and calling for an end to the use of force and strict adherence to international law and international humanitarian law.

Vietnam reaffirms its support for a two-state solution, where Palestine and Israel coexist peacefully and securely within recognized borders. It also emphasizes the central role of the United Nations in ensuring timely and unconditional access to humanitarian aid.

This is not just a foreign policy stance, but a moral declaration of a nation that has experienced war and understands the value of peace.

Gaza today is not just a besieged place – it is a wake-up call for the whole world. When humanity is weaponized, and silence is masked by cold diplomacy, every minute of delay is a stab to conscience.

Acting for humanity is not an option, but a duty. Either the world speaks for life—or death will speak for it!
