Over 600 students in Ho Chi Minh City were absent from the 10th grade entrance exam in Literature.

On the morning of June 1st, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training recorded 603 students absent from the 10th grade entrance exam in Literature. This year, the Department has not recorded any cases of candidates violating the regulations.

According to a report this afternoon from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the 2026 Ho Chi Minh City 10th grade entrance exam started smoothly with over 150,000 candidates participating in the Literature exam (120 minutes). The attendance rate was high, and the organization at the examination sites was stable, compliant with regulations, and no incidents were reported.

This afternoon, candidates will continue with the English exam, which lasts 90 minutes. Tomorrow morning (June 2nd), they will complete the final general exam, Mathematics (120 minutes). Students who applied for specialized or integrated classes will take an additional exam in the corresponding subject.

The 2026-2027 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City took place over two days, June 1-2. To accommodate over 151,000 candidates, the city arranged 242 examination centers (including 226 regular centers and 16 specialized centers) with nearly 6,450 examination rooms. More than 17,700 officials, teachers, and staff were mobilized to ensure the security and safety of the exam.

This year, public high schools in Ho Chi Minh City are recruiting approximately 118,500 students. Therefore, it is projected that about 78% of the candidates taking the entrance exam will secure a place in a public high school.

Earlier, evaluating the coordination of this year's 10th grade entrance exam, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training - said that this is the first year the exam has been held after the merger of three localities, with an exceptionally large scale, with more than 151,000 candidates taking the exam at 242 examination centers.

Accordingly, the transportation and delivery of exam papers were implemented earlier than in previous years to ensure safety and suitability to the scale of the exam. While in previous years exam papers were usually delivered to the examination sites on the same day and the answer sheets were collected immediately after each exam session, this year, from the morning before the exam day, the Department of Education and Training coordinated with relevant departments and agencies, especially the Ho Chi Minh City Police, to organize the transportation of exam papers to all examination sites.

In addition, local police forces were mobilized to coordinate security and supervision of the exam paper and answer sheet storage area in accordance with the examination regulations. This is also the first year that the model of coordination with grassroots police forces has been widely implemented after the administrative unit reorganization.

"Through the first two exam sessions, we have observed very positive cooperation from the police force, providing 24/7 security at the exam sites. This contributes to creating a sense of security and ensuring absolute safety for the exam," the Director of the Department of Education and Training emphasized.

For candidates with special circumstances or conditions, the Department of Education and Training has also developed appropriate support plans to ensure their right to take the exam, creating conditions for them to best utilize their academic abilities after 9 years of schooling, aiming for admission to grade 10 according to their wishes.

According to the Department of Education and Training's assessment, up to now, the coordination among the units participating in organizing the exam has been carried out synchronously, closely, and effectively, fully meeting the requirements of the regulations as well as the conditions ensuring that the exam takes place safely and seriously.
