World Oral Health Day was launched by the International Dental Federation (FDI) in 2007 and is celebrated annually in many countries. Through this event, FDI calls on dental associations worldwide to take action to raise awareness and improve oral health care for children and communities with the message "Beautiful smile - happy life".

Speaking at the Launch Ceremony, Professor Tran Van Thuan emphasized the importance of oral health to overall health and the quality of life of each individual.

According to the results of the 2019 national oral health survey, over 90% of Vietnamese people suffer from oral diseases to varying degrees, directly affecting their health, daily lives, and work productivity.

"This is a serious public health issue. This situation highlights the particularly important role of preventive measures and oral health education and communication in the community, especially for children," said the Deputy Minister of Health.

According to Mr. Tran Van Thuan, healthy teeth not only give each person a radiant smile but also support more efficient eating, communication, and work. Therefore, oral health care is an inseparable part of comprehensive health care.

Over the years, the Ministry of Health has implemented numerous activities to improve oral health for the population, such as promoting health education and communication, standardizing the professional system, expanding community-based oral care models, and organizing many free oral examination and consultation programs nationwide.

In addition, the Vietnam Dental Association has made many important contributions to improving the quality of oral care for the people through communication programs and professional activities.

Over the years, the Vietnam Dental Association has collaborated with various organizations to hold numerous activities in response to World Oral Health Day, contributing to raising community awareness about preventing oral diseases. These activities have also been recognized by the international dental community as an effective model with profound social significance.

In 2026, the Association will continue to launch a month-long program offering free dental check-ups, consultations, and care for the community. To date, more than 50 public and private dental clinics have registered to participate in the program, with the goal of providing check-ups and consultations to over 47,000 children and adults nationwide.

According to experts, World Oral Health Day is not only an annual event for the dental industry but also an opportunity for the whole society to work together to change awareness and behavior regarding oral care for themselves, their families, and their communities.

As part of this year's program, many practical awareness-raising activities are being organized to encourage the community to develop proper oral hygiene habits.

Activities included health communication and oral health counseling at the event area, community interaction, spreading the message of healthy living through proper oral care, and a solidarity walk to convey the message "Beautiful smile - happy life".

Launching activities in response to World Oral Health Day 2026, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Cao Binh, President of the Vietnam Dental Association and Director of the Central Dental Hospital in Hanoi, affirmed that this is an opportunity for the entire dental community nationwide to join hands in raising awareness and changing oral care behaviors in society.

He also encouraged people to follow the "2:2:2:2" motto in oral care, which includes brushing teeth twice a day for at least two minutes each time, refraining from eating or drinking for two hours after brushing, and having two dental checkups per year.
