The arrival of the Magic V5 is seen as a major challenge to Samsung's leading position in the foldable smartphone market, especially as the company prepares to introduce the Galaxy Z7 Series on July 9th. Although the Magic V5 is currently only sold in China, Honor is likely to expand the product to international markets later this year.

According to Honor, the Magic V5 has a thickness of 8.8 to 9 mm when folded, depending on the color. Compared to its predecessor, the Magic V3, which was 9.2 mm thick, the Magic V5 is lighter, weighing between 217 and 222 grams. Notably, the Chinese version of the Magic V5 will have internal storage options up to 1 TB and a battery of over 6,000 mAh – one of the highest battery capacities in the foldable smartphone segment.
Data from IDC indicates that, although foldable smartphones will account for less than 2% of the global smartphone market by 2024, Samsung will still be the leader with 34% market share, followed by Huawei with nearly 24% and Honor in fourth place with around 11%.
Honor's relentless efforts to beat Samsung.
Honor is determined to surpass Samsung, which is expected to launch its seventh-generation foldable smartphone next week, and the Magic V5 will put significant pressure on the South Korean company. The slimness of foldable smartphones has become a fierce competition among manufacturers aiming to attract users who want a large screen without sacrificing portability. Rumors suggest that the Galaxy Z Fold7, launching next week, will have a thinner design than its predecessor, but surpassing the Magic V5's 8.8 mm thickness may not be possible.

Honor is reportedly still in the process of building its brand in the international market, so the Chinese company is striving to differentiate itself from Samsung products. As part of this effort, Honor is also investing heavily in artificial intelligence (AI), with plans to spend $10 billion over the next five years to develop advanced personal assistants. For example, Honor's Yoyo AI assistant can interact with other AI models, helping users perform various tasks such as ordering taxis through apps in China.
