In the winter-spring crop of 2024-2025, Hung Long 555 rice variety has been affirming its position in the Mekong Delta and Southeast regions thanks to its outstanding yield, good rice quality and good resistance to pests and diseases.
Recognized by the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection to circulate in these areas from July 2024, Hung Long 555 quickly became the preferred choice of many farmers.
Hung Long 555 has a growing period of 95-100 days, a plant height of 94-107cm, a hard plant and upright leaves, suitable for many different types of soil. In particular, Hung Long 555 rice variety does not germinate on the panicle when exposed to prolonged rain and has a low grain shedding rate when ripe. In the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop in An Giang, Hung Long 555 achieved a yield of 9.6-10.4 tons/ha. The rice quality is highly appreciated with a white rice ratio of 95.7%, amylose content of 16.2%, soft and flavorful rice, meeting the requirements of the export market.
Mr. Huynh Cong Nhiep in Binh Hoa commune, Chau Thanh district, An Giang province said: “I have been cultivating this rice variety for the fourth crop. In previous crops, the area was only 8 hectares, but this crop has increased to 30 hectares. Hung Long 555 has high yield, stable selling price, especially the ability to resist pests and diseases very well, especially rice blast disease.
After 4 crops, I have not seen any rice blast infection in my rice fields. In this year's winter-spring crop, after harvesting, the rice yield was 1.2 tons/cong (cong 1,300m2), equivalent to nearly 10 tons/ha. Hung Long 555 rice has export potential thanks to its good quality, soft rice, rich flavor, meeting the requirements of demanding markets."

According to many other farmers, Hung Long 555 was selected to adapt to difficult farming conditions, especially its ability to resist pests such as leaf blast, neck blast, leaf blight and brown planthopper. This rice variety has been successfully grown from North to South with a yield of 10 to 12 fresh tons/ha, even up to 13 fresh tons/ha in some places in the Central Highlands.
With outstanding advantages in productivity, rice quality, resistance to pests and diseases and production cost savings, Hung Long 555 is becoming a reliable choice for many farmers. At the same time, this rice variety contributes to promoting participation in the 1 million hectares of high-quality rice project to reduce emissions in the Mekong Delta.
In the Southeast region, in the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop, farmer Dang Van Tum, in An Phu hamlet, An Hoa commune, Trang Bang district, Tay Ninh province boldly planted 3 hectares (3,000m2) of Hung Long 555 rice variety. It was the first crop, and he was still cautious about the new variety. Although the amount of fertilizer was not according to the instructions, the field was warped and lost water at the high angle, but the result was very satisfactory.
Mr. Dang Van Tum said that he initially received 40kg of Hung Long 555 rice seeds, copyrighted, produced and supplied nationwide by International Agricultural Seed Joint Stock Company (IAS), and he trusted and tried it. After soaking and sowing on December 22, 2024, the rice germinated and grew very evenly. During the growth process, the Hung Long 555 rice field bloomed well (reaching 320 - 340 flowers/bush), was resistant to pests and diseases, and was not infected with blast or leaf edge burn.

Rice bloomed concentratedly, the panicles were very large, the rice was in the stalks (average 165 - 170 solid grains/puff, large panicles had around 300 grains), the actual yield of the trial field reached 2,591 kg of fresh rice equivalent to 8.6 tons/ha.
Total time from sowing to harvest is 101 days, suitable for local seasons, equivalent to popular varieties such as: OM 18, Dai Thom 8, OM 5451... When harvested, the leaves still have a lemon yellow color, the rice does not fall over, the plants are strong and upright.
At the rice variety evaluation workshop, in front of dozens of farmers in An Hoa commune, Trang Bang district (Tay Ninh), Mr. Le Ngoc Anh, author of Hung Long 555 variety, shared: Hung Long 555 variety has been granted a circulation decision in 6/7 ecological regions nationwide with circulation code: CNLH.2022.89 and granted protection certificate No. 17.VN.2022 on December 15, 2022. The variety has high yield potential, good intensive cultivation reaching 11-12 tons/ha of fresh rice, good resistance to pests and diseases, especially less susceptible to blast and bacterial leaf blight, good rice quality (rice length 6.97 mm), Amylose around 16% depending on the crop region.
Regarding the white rice ratio of over 97%, the white rice is soft and flavorful. In addition to the provinces in the Southeast region such as Tay Ninh, Dong Nai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, for the provinces in the Mekong Delta, the International Agricultural Seed Joint Stock Company has been cooperating with purchasing units to build concentrated raw material areas in the Central Highlands and the Mekong Delta. With the advantages of resistance, high yield, good quality, adaptability to many soils and crops. In the coming time, Hung Long 555 promises to bring higher efficiency to rice growers.
Hung Long 555 has a growing period of 95-100 days, a plant height of 94-107cm, a hard plant and upright leaves, suitable for many different types of soil, so farmers in the Mekong Delta and Southeast prefer to choose this rice variety to grow and expand in the following crops. Photo: Le Hoang Vu.
As the person who understands the characteristics of Hung Long 555 best, Mr. Anh recommends that when cultivating Hung Long 555, farmers should pay attention to fertilizing according to the instructions on the packaging as well as the actual growth of the rice field. In particular, the phosphate fertilizer factor must reach about 20-25 kg DAP/1,000 m2 or 20-25 kg Super Phosphate/360 m2 Northern pole to support the root system development. Especially in the summer-autumn crop in the South and the winter-spring crop in the North, when phosphate fertilizer is applied as basal fertilizer, it will help the microorganisms in the soil develop, contributing to the decomposition of straw residues to prevent organic poisoning in rice. At the same time, iron and aluminum are fixed and the soil pH is stabilized, maximizing the use of fertilizer to help the plant absorb well.
Hung Long 555 rice variety has proven its potential and effectiveness in agricultural production in the Mekong Delta and the Southeast. With high yield, good rice quality and resistance to pests and diseases, Hung Long 555 not only brings economic benefits to farmers but also contributes positively to the sustainable development of the Vietnamese rice industry.
