Career guidance for 9th grade students

Choosing between continuing education or vocational training is a crucial decision for 9th-grade students. At Binh Khanh Junior High School in Binh Duc Ward, career guidance for 9th-grade students is implemented early with the cooperation of the school and parents, helping students clearly identify the right path.

At Binh Khanh Secondary School, homeroom teachers are attentive to guiding students' career choices. For students who are still undecided, homeroom teachers proactively advise them on choosing a subject group for the high school entrance exam, helping them continue to pursue their dreams.

Tran Thi Huong Giang, a student in class 9A1 at Binh Khanh Secondary School, excels in mathematics, and her family suggested she explore accounting as a career path. According to Giang, her parents' guidance helped her begin to seriously consider her future.

The shift in students' mindset from "following directions" to "thinking for commitment" shows the importance of career counseling sessions starting from the final years of middle school. Giang shared: "I understand that choosing a field and profession that suits my interests is very important because it's the job I'll be involved in for life. The teachers' guidance helped me see further into the future."

Huynh Nguyen Qui, a 9th-grade student from Binh Khanh Secondary School, recently won first prize in the provincial-level biology competition for gifted students. She has a clear career path, setting her sights on becoming a biology teacher. Qui aspires to stand on the podium and impart knowledge about the natural world . She feels even more confident with her parents' support. "I'm focusing on improving my knowledge and developing a serious attitude towards learning to achieve my dream," Qui confided.

From the perspective of a high-achieving student, Qui highly values the role of career guidance sessions at school. The teachers' sharing helps students gain a multifaceted perspective, comparing personal interests with career requirements. This is the "key" to preventing students from getting lost in the "forest" of admissions information.

Discussing career guidance for junior high school students, Mr. Ngo Thanh Rot, homeroom teacher of class 9A9 at Binh Khanh Junior High School, believes that choosing a profession shouldn't be based on superficial glamour. A sound decision must stem from one's own abilities, passions, and careful guidance from family.

Mr. Rot frequently advises students and parents against chasing after the hottest, most sought-after professions. In the context of a rapidly changing world dominated by artificial intelligence (AI), Mr. Rot believes that every profession has its own value and can provide sustainable income if pursued wholeheartedly. "Instead of pressuring children to take entrance exams for schools beyond their capabilities, parents should be supportive companions, helping them choose the subject combinations that best suit their abilities. The goal is to help them find pride in every step of their future," Mr. Rot emphasized.

To ensure career guidance is effective, the Executive Committee of the Youth Union and the Student Union of Binh Khanh Secondary School proactively help students gain practical experience. Every year, the school collaborates with An Giang Vocational College and other high schools in the area to organize college admissions counseling. Mr. Doan Van Luc, Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union and Head Teacher in charge of the Student Union at Binh Khanh Secondary School, said that a particularly interesting highlight is the connection with top-tier schools. Specifically, Thoai Ngoc Hau Specialized High School in Long Xuyen Ward sends invitation letters to parents of 9th-grade students for in-depth counseling; the Board of Directors of Long Xuyen High School regularly holds flag-raising ceremonies to help students clearly visualize the learning environment and new subject combinations.

However, Mr. Luc frankly pointed out the reality: "Many students still have the mentality of choosing specialized schools or classes just to keep up with their peers, leading to unnecessary pressure. Therefore, parent-teacher meetings at the end of the semester become an important 'bridge'. Here, homeroom teachers will provide thorough advice to help families and students agree on aspirations based on the students' academic abilities, avoiding choosing the wrong subject combination that could hinder their studies in high school."
