" PSSI and the head coach of the Indonesian national team , Patrick Kluivert, have officially agreed to terminate their two-year contract early through a bilateral termination mechanism ," the official website of the Indonesian Football Federation announced. With this termination, Kluivert's coaching staff will no longer lead the Indonesian national team at the senior, U23, or U20 levels.

The PSSI's decision to sack Kluivert and his coaching staff came just three days after Indonesia lost 0-1 to Iraq in the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

This is Garuda's second consecutive defeat in the FIFA Days of October. Previously, they lost 2-3 to Saudi Arabia on October 9th.

Two crucial defeats pushed the Indonesian team to the bottom of Group B and officially eliminated them from the race to qualify for the World Cup next year.

Significantly, after these two defeats, Kluivert and his team went straight back to the Netherlands, instead of returning to Indonesia, indicating that the former star player also accepted the possibility of being sacked .

PSSI explained: “ This step is being taken as part of a comprehensive review of Indonesia’s football training and development program .”

Patrick Kluivert, unexpectedly invited by PSSI to replace coach Shin Tae Young, is showing that he is on the right track and doing quite well, leading the Indonesian national team to realize their dream of participating in the 2026 World Cup.

However, PSSI has shown this to be a wrong choice. In his 10 months in the position, Patrick Kluivert has coached the Indonesian national team in 8 matches, including 6 in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

As a result, he only managed 3 wins, 1 draw, and 4 losses, with Indonesia scoring 11 goals and conceding 15.
