The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) is speeding up the process of selecting a new head coach for Garuda, after parting ways with Patrick Kluivert.

One of the names recently mentioned about the possibility of leading Indonesia is Giovanni van Bronckhorst. The former Dutch player quickly became the focus of the media in the archipelago.

According to local sources, Van Bronckhorst is among a group of about five candidates being considered for interviews by PSSI.

This week, PSSI representatives flew to Europe to conduct interviews with candidates. This process took place in the UK and Spain.

Experts consider Van Bronckhorst a worthy option for PSSI, because he belongs to the modern generation of coaches in Dutch football.

The 50-year-old former player has had success in different football environments such as Arsenal and Barcelona, and has 106 caps for the Netherlands national team.

Van Bronckhorst has a wealth of experience in his coaching career. He is notable for leading Feyenoord to the Dutch championship in 2016-17; Europa League runner-up with Rangers in 2022.

One of Van Bronckhorst's highlights is his tactical organization, ability to build collective play and especially develop young players - something Indonesia really needs in the rebuilding phase.

Last summer, Van Bronckhorst joined Liverpool's coaching staff as assistant to Arne Slot.

Liverpool are in deep crisis. This could open the door for Van Bronckhorst to leave Anfield.

PSSI is still maintaining a cautious attitude. President Erick Thohir said the process of appointing a new coach must be carefully prepared to avoid the Kluivert lesson.

However, the final choice may be announced by PSSI early this year, as Indonesia needs a new captain to prepare for the 2026 FIFA Series – a friendly tournament held between federations.

One advantage Van Bronckhorst has is that he is of Indonesian descent. Both his father and mother have Southeast Asian blood.
