At a store on Su Van Hanh Street ( Ho Chi Minh City) on the afternoon of September 22nd, an orange iPhone 17 Pro Max with 256GB of memory was priced at 45 million VND. If choosing the silver version, buyers were offered 46-48 million VND.
The situation is similar with the 512GB version. The orange model is priced at 50 million VND, while the silver one costs up to 54 million VND. Meanwhile, the listed prices for these two memory versions in Vietnam are 38 million and 44.5 million VND respectively.
"Customers have to spend more than 5-8 million VND to own the orange color, and it can go up to 10 million VND for the silver color. Prices change constantly depending on the supply, the difference is high but there isn't enough stock to sell," said Tuan Thanh, the store owner.
Similarly, Minh Hai, the owner of a phone store in Hanoi , confirmed the price increase of the silver iPhone 17 Pro Max. Here, the 512GB silver version is selling for 3-4 million VND more than the orange one. "The price is high, but at least we still have the phone, while the 256GB silver version is almost unavailable," he said.
The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max series were introduced in three colors: orange, silver, and green. Similar to previous years, the new color is usually the most sought-after model. This year, the orange color attracted users even before the official launch. For example, ShopDunk reported that approximately 85% of customers pre-ordering the iPhone 17 Pro Max on the first day chose the orange color. In some other retailers, the percentage of people choosing this version was also over 60%.
However, after three days of sales, the silver version was considered "more difficult to buy than the orange one" by many stores. According to Tuan Thanh, both the orange and silver versions showed high interest, accounting for 90% of the store's customers in recent days. "The silver version has a smaller supply, leading to scarcity and a higher price," he explained.
Besides its scarcity, the silver color is also appealing because it's considered more suitable for the majority. This year, for the first time, Apple introduced orange – considered relatively vibrant and eye-catching – to a high-end model. "Some people really like orange, but many others don't choose it. Silver, on the other hand, has been around for many years, is elegant enough, and easy to match with accessories," said the owner of a phone store in Cau Giay (Hanoi). "Some online images of the orange iPhone 17 Pro Max showing scratches also make users think twice."
This year's iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max feature significant design changes, including a larger camera module and an aluminum casing, touted as improving heat dissipation and durability. Pre-orders opened in Vietnam on September 12th, with delivery a week later. Immediately upon release, the 256GB orange version sold out in minutes, followed by the silver version, while the green version received less attention.
