According to WANA news agency, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed on June 3rd that Iran is still maintaining contact with the US, but the negotiation process has not made much progress because the two sides have not been able to agree on a final draft agreement.
"Current contacts are influenced by many external factors and there is no formal framework yet. Iran and the US are still exchanging information through intermediaries, but any potential agreement must ensure the rights of the Iranian people and end military actions targeting Lebanon," Araghchi said.

Foreign Minister Araghchi emphasized that Lebanon is suffering the direct consequences of the conflict between Iran and the US and Israel. Furthermore, Tehran views the Hezbollah armed group as an integral part of Lebanese society and political system.
In his comments, Araghchi also suggested that Washington had underestimated Tehran's capabilities. "They thought we would quickly compromise under military pressure. But the other side had to adjust its strategy after realizing Iran's ability to retaliate. We don't want an escalation, but we are always prepared for a protracted conflict if attacked first," the top Iranian diplomat said.
Meanwhile, on June 3, US President Donald Trump said Washington and Tehran were "very close" to a peace agreement, even predicting that signing could take place by the end of the week.
"It might not happen, nobody knows for sure. But if all goes well, it could happen as early as this weekend," Trump said.
According to the US President, a prerequisite for an agreement is that Iran must agree never to possess, develop, or acquire nuclear weapons.
