Iran's decision to temporarily halt negotiations with the US further complicates efforts to end the Iran-Iran war, which has lasted more than three months.

"The Iranian negotiating team will temporarily suspend talks and the exchange of documents through mediators," the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf told Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri on June 1 that Tehran could retaliate if Israeli attacks in Lebanon continue.

"Over the past two days, we have been seriously pursuing efforts to stop Israeli attacks. If these crimes continue, we will not only suspend negotiations with the US but also take action against Israel," Ghalibaf said, according to Iran's state news agency (IRNA). "If an agreement to end the war between Iran and the US is reached, that agreement will include a halt to attacks on all fronts, especially in Lebanon."

On the same day, the Iranian Foreign Ministry declared that the United States bears direct responsibility for both violations of the ceasefire agreement against Iran and violations committed by Israel against Lebanon.

On June 1st, US President Donald Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth Social that he had spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and representatives of Hezbollah. He stated that no Israeli soldiers would be coming to Beirut.

"I had a very productive phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. No soldiers will be coming to Beirut, and any soldiers who were en route have been turned back," he wrote. "Similarly, through senior representatives, I had a very good phone call with Hezbollah. And they agreed that all fighting would cease – Israel would not attack them, and they would not attack Israel."

The Lebanese embassy in Washington issued a statement saying that Hezbollah had accepted the terms of the US proposal to cease mutual attacks.

"Under the proposed agreement, Israeli attacks on the southern suburbs of Beirut would cease in exchange for Hezbollah refraining from attacks against Israel," the Lebanese embassy said. "The ceasefire would then be extended to the entire territory of Lebanon."
