Taking advantage of the lake and waterfall
From Gia Nghia to Ta Dung and then connecting to Da Lat, the western route of Lam Dong province is opening up a tourism area with rich potential, featuring lakes, waterfalls, forests, and the characteristic climate of the highlands. Unlike the bustling centers of Da Lat or Mui Ne - Phan Thiet, Gia Nghia - Ta Dung offers a different atmosphere: pristine, open, and full of opportunities for exploration.
The Ta Dung area impresses with its vast lake nestled among dozens of small islands, often referred to as the "Ha Long Bay" of the Central Highlands. The expansive lake amidst the mountains and forests creates a unique charm for this region, making it particularly suitable for resort tourism, camping, stand-up paddleboarding, trekking, and ecotourism.
From here, visitors can continue to experience the scenic routes through lakes, waterfalls, and sprawling pine forests. According to Ms. Bui Thi Khanh Hoa , President of the Ta Dung - Gia Nghia Tourism Association, the most attractive aspect of this tourist route lies in its unique landscape and experiences.
“Nowadays, tourists not only want to visit beautiful places to take photos but also want to experience the true beauty of nature. Ta Dung or the Gia Nghia - Da Lat route has great advantages in terms of lakes, waterfalls, forests, and climate. If we know how to link products and connect tours, this will be a very promising tourist destination,” Ms. Hoa shared.

Mr. Tran Van Trung, representative of The Lake Hill Ta Dung tourist area, said that since the beginning of the year, the area has welcomed more than 7,000 visitors. Currently, the tourist area is collaborating with travel companies inside and outside the province, implementing promotional offers combined with accommodation to increase competitiveness and expand its customer base.
According to Mr. Trung, Lake Hill's biggest advantage is its well-planned investment from the outset, with a diverse system of landscapes, services, and experiential activities. However, for sustainable development, a more synchronized tourism chain needs to be formed in the area. Currently, infrastructure and accommodation options are still limited, so stronger connections with travel agencies are needed to create a stable source of tourists.
Besides its natural landscapes, the western region of Lam Dong also boasts a rich local culture. Along the Gia Nghia - Ta Dung route, numerous ethnic minority communities live, each with their own unique cultural traditions, adding depth to experiential tourism products.
In the context of the tourism industry moving towards green and sustainable development, areas that still retain their pristine beauty, such as Ta Dung or the lakes and waterfalls in western Lam Dong, have even more room for development. However, according to many tourism businesses, the important thing is not only the resources but also the ability to connect and build unique products.

Linking tourism potentials
According to Ms. Bui Thi Khanh Hoa, in the past, many tourists often visited individual destinations, but now the trend is gradually shifting towards longer, multi-day experiential trips. A trip can start in Gia Nghia, explore Ta Dung Lake, experience local culture, and then connect to Da Lat with its resorts, cloud-watching, and exploration of lakes and waterfalls. This diversity helps this route retain tourists for longer periods.
At a meeting with travel agencies in Ta Dung, Mr. Dinh Van Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, stated that the western region of the province has great potential for developing ecotourism, resort tourism, and nature experiences thanks to its relatively unspoiled landscape with a system of lakes, waterfalls, forests, and a characteristic highland climate. If exploited rationally, in conjunction with resource conservation and tour route linkages, this will become an important driving force for expanding the province's tourism space.

He also suggested that, instead of developing tourism in isolation, itineraries should be formed connecting different localities to create a continuous chain of experiences for tourists. Among these, the Gia Nghia - Ta Dung - Da Lat route is considered to have great potential due to its convergence of unique natural landscapes and local culture.
In fact, many tourism businesses have developed experiential tours along the western highland route, combining ecotourism, relaxation, and exploration. The journey from Gia Nghia to Da Lat is increasingly attracting tourists thanks to its expansive natural landscapes, offering a relaxing and intimate experience.
The Lam Dong Provincial Tourism Association hopes that its branches will become a bridge between businesses, the community, and state management agencies; and at the same time, guide tourism development towards professionalism, quality, and sustainability. This will create momentum to promote regional linkages, enhance products, and gradually build the Ta Dung - Gia Nghia brand into a unique ecological, resort, and experiential destination.
Associations and organizations need to play a connecting role and improve the quality of tourism products. This will contribute to promoting sustainable local tourism development.
