Developing modern logistics service infrastructure.

Dong Nai possesses significant potential and advantages for developing leading logistics services in the Southern key economic region, with a multimodal transportation system highlighted by Long Thanh Airport and numerous key national transportation projects and infrastructure. The locality has been focusing on building a solid infrastructure foundation, creating momentum for the development of modern, multimodal logistics services.

Currently, in the fields of trade, services, and logistics, the province's logistics infrastructure has seen significant development. Inland container depots (ICDs), dry ports, and river ports such as Tan Cang - Nhon Trach ICD, Long Binh ICD, and Dong Nai Port ICD, along with the Phuoc An Port Logistics Service Area, are operating effectively, contributing to connecting road, waterway, and seaport transport, shortening transit times, and reducing logistics costs for businesses. Commercial infrastructure is being gradually modernized with a network of markets, supermarkets, shopping centers, and large-scale commercial projects receiving investment to meet the growing needs of residents and businesses.

According to many experts, besides leveraging its strategically important location and the development drivers of airports, seaports, industrial zones, and airport cities, human resources will be the key factor determining the development and breakthrough of Dong Nai...

Provincial Party Committee member and Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, Vu Ngoc Long, shared: In the coming time, the industry and trade sector will coordinate with relevant departments, agencies, and localities to promote investment in large-scale logistics centers, linked to ports, Long Thanh Airport, inland container depot (ICD) systems, border gates, and inter-regional transportation routes; develop modern commercial infrastructure associated with digital transformation and e-commerce, and expand market space for businesses.

The formation of Long Thanh Airport City – the nucleus of the largest aviation service region in the country – along with the Dong Nai River corridor – the axis of modern urban development in the southern part of the province – is a dual driving force, simultaneously promoting services, trade, and logistics while activating the real estate, financial, and tourism markets, creating a breakthrough in the local economy.

According to Nguyen Duy Hung, Vice Chairman of the Dong Nai Logistics Association, Dong Nai is not simply an industrial province but is striving to become the "heart" of logistics in the Southern key economic region. With stable GRDP growth and a continuously increasing inflow of FDI into industrial zones, the need for a smart and integrated logistics service system is crucial for retaining investors and boosting exports.

Simultaneously, with the commissioning of Long Thanh Airport, Dong Nai will not only become an international air transit hub and develop its strengths in logistics, trade, and industry, but will also have advantages as a transit and data connectivity center, attracting the development of the information technology industry…

Associate Professor Dr. Tu Diep Cong Thanh, Director of the Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Center (IPTC) at the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, shared: Becoming a centrally-governed city will help Dong Nai shift from its position as an industrial production center to a regional center for innovation and a science and technology market, driven by strong institutions, resources, and deep regional linkages. Upon becoming a centrally-governed city, Dong Nai will be positioned higher in the national science and technology development strategy. This will not only help attract high-quality resources but also enhance the value of research, innovation, and technology transfer activities in the area.

Potential and driving forces for development from free trade zones.

Dong Nai province is planning and implementing the Long Thanh Airport urban plan, which includes: a free trade zone, a high-tech industrial park, a concentrated digital technology zone, an innovation zone, a high-quality university education and training zone, an aviation logistics zone, and an aviation service center, ensuring working and living conditions for the intellectual and creative class in the region.

The development of the free trade zone aims to attract strategic investors in advanced sectors, leveraging synergy with logistics and services to optimize processes from production to export; building a leading MICE tourism cluster in the South; and establishing financial and commercial zones, providing support services for businesses and free trade finance…

Dr. Ngo Viet Nam Son, Chairman of NgoViet Architects & Planners (based in Ho Chi Minh City), shared: Dong Nai has many advantages for developing free trade zones. The locality has a large land fund to build concentrated free trade zones, directly connected to Long Thanh Airport and the Cai Mep - Thi Vai and Phuoc An port clusters… To maximize the potential and effectiveness of the free trade zone, Dong Nai needs to connect it with key local infrastructure, linking urban areas and economic-financial centers…

Dr. Truong Minh Huy Vu, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Development Research Institute, commented: The free trade zone in Dong Nai needs to focus on regional linkages, developing new development spaces centered around Long Thanh Airport, and leveraging Dong Nai's development potential. In developing the free trade zone, the locality needs to prioritize transportation connectivity and implement appropriate mechanisms to attract investors to the free trade zone with comprehensive and modern services…
