The story has gone viral on social media in recent days, sparking mixed reactions due to the image of "rat droppings" found on a customer's plate.

Bad experience

According to Thanh Nien 's investigation, the customer who complained about the restaurant is Mr. NT (33 years old, residing in District 7). When contacted, Mr. T. assured that what he shared on social media was true and that he takes responsibility for his words.

Mr. T. claims his meal contained rat droppings.

The customer recounted that on the evening of July 21st, he and his family went to a restaurant on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street (Ho Chi Minh City) for dinner. He happily ate and chatted until he discovered that he had eaten a piece of asparagus that was lying on a black foreign object, which he claimed was rat droppings.

Shortly afterward, Mr. T. said he called staff to help him identify exactly what the foreign object was and resolve the issue. After taking it to the kitchen for inspection, the restaurant staff informed him that it was just a mixture of garlic and pepper, and told him he could continue eating it as there was nothing to worry about.

“I asked the staff and kitchen to return the ‘foreign object’ so I could examine it precisely, but they couldn’t return it and insisted it was garlic. I asked to speak to the manager and was given a regional leader who again insisted it was garlic and even brought out a new dish, telling me to continue eating and they would resolve the issue later. Of course, I refused and demanded the exact foreign object be returned because I cannot accept them distorting the truth like that,” the customer said angrily.

The restaurant claims that it was simply burnt garlic in the dish.

Mr. T continued, recounting how, after 20 minutes, the restaurant brought him two pieces of burnt garlic. He confirmed that these were indeed two pieces of burnt garlic, and the restaurant said they were the foreign objects from earlier and told him to eat without worry.

“But you didn’t know that when I took pictures and compared them, the two samples were completely different. After seeing the pictures I showed them, they were speechless and went to see a higher-level manager. The result remained unchanged; the senior manager confirmed to me that it wasn’t garlic, because garlic can’t possibly be perfectly round with two twisted ends, and concluded that it was an inedible ‘foreign object’,” he recounted.

Outrage

Afterward, Mr. T. requested that the restaurant pay for the meal. He said the restaurant offered to treat him to the meal because of a negative experience, but he refused, requesting that they only charge him for the problematic dish.

The customer also stated that three days later, he proactively contacted the restaurant again to request a resolution, but to date, the restaurant's handling of the situation has been unsatisfactory, leaving him frustrated.

This has been Mr. T's favorite restaurant for many years.

The young man said he thought carefully before deciding to share this on social media, but he was sure that if he didn't share it, he wouldn't be the only one experiencing this, and that the restaurant's loyal customers would also be affected in terms of their health.

"Above all, I don't know when the restaurant will finally handle customer complaints honestly and responsibly, with a conscience as a food business. Or will they continue with the superficial, irresponsible, and distorted handling of the situation, as they have done with themselves?" he added.

According to Mr. T., he has been a regular customer of this restaurant for nearly 6 years. However, after this incident, he will never eat there again or recommend it to friends and relatives, given the negative experience he just had.

What did the restaurant say?

Speaking to Thanh Nien newspaper, the restaurant confirmed that the aforementioned incident did occur. However, a representative of the restaurant asserted that the foreign object the customer claimed was "rat droppings" was actually just a burnt piece of garlic. The restaurant showed the customer the object and explained the situation, but the customer disagreed with the restaurant's conclusion.

"Right at the moment the customer complained, the restaurant tried every way to explain, even showing him the burnt garlic and similar residues. From the restaurant's perspective, having burnt garlic in the customer's dish is completely wrong and inexcusable, but we wouldn't consider calling it something animalistic," the restaurant added.

The restaurant stated that they had repeatedly tried to invite the customer to the restaurant in person to experience it firsthand, as explaining it back and forth would be impossible. The restaurant hoped the customer would come in person and demonstrate the steps involved in creating that perfectly burnt garlic dish.

"After inviting the customer to the restaurant to resolve the issue, the restaurant will have more accurate and complete information," a representative from the restaurant said.
