Room prices in the city center have increased sharply.
With less than a month left until the National Day holiday on September 2, Ms. Thanh Diem (HCMC) and her siblings plan to go to Hanoi to enjoy the bustling atmosphere of the capital in the early autumn days, as well as join the crowd walking on the streets, enjoying the cuisine and exploring the corners of the old town.
However, when looking at flight tickets from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, Ms. Diem saw that a round-trip ticket for one person was nearly 6 million VND. Not only that, hotel prices in Hanoi on September 2 also increased. Therefore, Ms. Diem was somewhat "hesitant" and reconsidered her travel plans.
"I looked up the cheapest airfare, including extra baggage, and it was around 6 million VND/person. For 3 of us, it was nearly 20 million VND. As for hotels, normally, I see hotels near the center of Hanoi are only a few hundred thousand VND/night, but during September 2, they skyrocketed," said Ms. Diem.
Ms. Diem’s story is not an isolated one. This year’s National Day holiday on September 2nd lasts 4 days, plus the weather in Hanoi is at its best time of the year, causing the demand for tourism in the capital to increase.

Many people are used to the scarcity of air tickets and the increase in prices. In fact, the cost of accommodation in Hanoi during this time also increases significantly. It is even difficult to find a room in a central location if you book close to the date.
Dan Tri reporters surveyed online booking platforms and found that many 3-4 star hotels in the Old Quarter, around Hoan Kiem Lake or near Ba Dinh Square on September 2 increased prices by 30-50% compared to normal days.
A 3-star hotel in Hoan Kiem ward, less than 3km from Ba Dinh Square, has a room rate for 2 people that normally costs about 700,000 VND/night, but on the occasion of September 2nd, it increased to 1.5 million VND/night.

Another 4-star hotel in this ward costs around 760,000 VND/night for mid-August, but reached over 2 million VND/night on the evening of September 1.
Regular hotels and homestays (accommodation services with private homes) are highly rated for their location, design, and service, with reasonable prices of around 450,000 VND/night, but are almost fully booked, with not much room left for all 3 nights of the holiday.
Proactively find solutions to "avoid" high prices
According to information from the Hanoi Department of Tourism, since May, the number of guests booking rooms for the September 2 holiday has increased by about 30-40% compared to the same period in 2024, especially hotels and accommodation facilities in the old Hoan Kiem and old Ba Dinh districts.
As of early August, Vietravel Hanoi has recorded positive signals from the market when the number of customers interested in and registering for tours on the occasion of September 2nd has continuously increased. Of the total 1,500 seats prepared for the holiday, nearly 40% of the seats have been filled.
With airfares and hotel prices rising, many travelers are choosing flexible options. Some book rooms in neighboring districts, even far from the center of Hanoi, to get a "softer" price and avoid the crowded scene in the center.
Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Ms. Thu Dao (Hanh Thong ward, HCMC) said she is looking at hotels about 7-10km from Ba Dinh Square and feels the prices are very reasonable.
"I see many hotels with prices ranging from 300,000 to 400,000 VND/night, for all 3 nights of the holiday. I think it's reasonable for two people to spend less than 2 million VND on accommodation for the trip. To save money, try to wake up early and move to entertainment spots a little further away," Ms. Dao commented.
Besides, many tourists also tend to combine Hanoi with neighboring destinations such as Ninh Binh, Quang Ninh... to divide their stay in the capital, reducing total costs.
Many travel agencies said that the number of customers booking regional tours such as Hanoi - Ninh Binh, Hanoi - Ha Long, Hanoi - Moc Chau... increased dramatically from the beginning of August, especially during the period from August 30 to September 2.

It can be said that price increases during the holidays are inevitable when demand increases, especially in the city center. Tourists can keep costs reasonable by booking flights and rooms early, prioritizing flight and hotel package options or considering booking rooms far from the center.
In addition, in Hanoi on September 2, not only the Old Quarter or Hoan Kiem Lake are bustling, but many places such as Yen So Park, Vietnam Museum of Nature, Vietnam Military History Museum or cafes with a view of Long Bien Bridge are also worth experiencing, helping visitors reduce financial pressure while still fully enjoying the holiday atmosphere.
The price increase but still "sold out" shows the special attraction of Hanoi during this National Day holiday. And for those who love the beauty of autumn streets, the sound of history and the taste of Northern cuisine, the Capital has always been an unmissable destination.
